Lorie, 28, was ready to take the plunge. She had chosen her wedding dress, paid deposits to the suppliers and sent all the invitations. But the young woman was relieved when she turned back.
Lorie and Marc have known each other for many years, but they had never considered becoming a couple. Mutual friends put a tip in their ear and they set off on lots of projects. After a year of dating, they decide to formalize their relationship by taking the plunge in front of the Mayor. Everything then comes together: Lorie makes multiple appointments to find the wedding dress of her dreams and the couple quickly begins preparations for the wedding. Caterer, reception room, photographer, invitations, orchestra… All service providers are booked and certain deposits already paid. But one month before D-day, Lorie has doubts and cancels everything at the last moment.
“It was a difficult decision to make, because I told myself that we had already paid a fortune for the organization of the wedding, that some people had booked train or plane tickets to be there on the big day. . But my mother helped me a lot by relieving me of guilt.“, the young woman confides to us. “It’s thanks to her that I was able to make my choice with peace of mind.“, she continues. In fact, the latter reassured her about the cancellation of the marriage. “She told me not to worry about what people would say, or how much I spent, that she would rather lose money than waste my life and that if I had the slightest doubt , there was still time to turn back”.
Finally, by admitting to Marc that he wasn’t the one, Lorie has never been so relieved. “The day I told him that I no longer wanted to get married, I had a huge sigh, like a weight less weighing me down from the inside.. And for good reason: Marc was particularly kind and affectionate, outgoing and seductive, but he could, on certain days, be quite the opposite. “He hid his true face and when he got angry, he terrorized me. I was as happy as I was unhappy, and I often came home crying because he banged on the wall to avoid laying his hands on me”she testifies. Lorie also says that he was particularly jealous, suspicious and possessive, somewhat manipulative, and that he forbade her from seeing her friends or going out alone. “I told myself that if I had married him, I could have become the beaten wife cut off from the world. Not to mention the insults or the lack of respect he could have towards me”. What’s more: she wasn’t the only one to have canceled her wedding with him at the last minute: two other of her exes also fled at the last minute!
Lorie believes that she made the best decision of her life, which somehow changed her future. Years later, when she cut ties with her ex, she heard about what he had become… Friends told her that he had married a woman and that he pushed her out the door with her suitcases, throwing plates in her face. He then got back into a relationship and had children, separated again, and is now fighting for custody in a very conflictual atmosphere. For her part, Lorie is more than fulfilled: she married the man of her life, with whom she had a child.
