«Light is what guides us along the path of life, it is the lighthouse that illuminates our path». He says it with a smile on his face, as he looks with satisfaction at the statuette he designed for the 2025 Jubilee – which he called, in fact, “Light” – resting on the table in front of us.
Roman by birth, but “citizen of the world”, Simone Legno, 47, is a designer known throughout the world for his style that mixes Japanese kawaii aesthetics with Western pop-art. With its TokiDoki brand, Legno boasts dozens of collaborations with international giants. Just to name a few: from Hello Kitty (Sanrio) to Barbie (Mattel), from Disney to Marvel, up to the designer Karl Lagerfeld.
But his latest creation goes beyond fashion and design, it was created to embody the sense of the spiritual journey and bring young people closer to religion. «For me it is an honor and a responsibility. I wanted Luce to speak not only to those who already live the faith, but also to those who feel it is distant, using the universal language of art”, he explains to me before telling me how this project is also intertwined with his personal story. Simone, in fact, has a deep connection with faith, a legacy of his childhood in Italy. «I grew up in a Catholic family, with a very devout Polish mother and in an era in which the presence of the Church was strong. I remember the Crucifix in the classrooms, the Marian month, the processions… These are values that I carry within me and that I also try to pass on to my children. We live in Japan, but they still study in a Catholic school.” And he does not fail to underline his gratitude to God…
