It is free and accessible to everyone.
Living longer and, above all, in better health, is a universal desire. In this area, advice is increasing, often associated with expensive products or complex diets. Yet Dr. Alok Chopra, a world-renowned cardiologist, says the secret to aging long and well lies not in pharmaceuticals, but in a “treatment” that everyone can afford.
According to him, it is “the world’s most powerful remedy for longevity“: it is free, requires no prescription and its effectiveness rate exceeds that of almost all known pharmaceutical interventions. The cardiologist believes that this remedy acts like a true “polypill” (a multiple pill), protecting the heart, improving metabolism and combating cellular inflammation. A claim supported by several studies which confirm its crucial role in the prevention of cardiovascular diseases.
What is this unstoppable “treatment”? According to Dr. Chopra, it’s regular exercise. “90 minutes of exercise (1h30) can reduce the risk of death by 15%. You can live ten more years in good health” he assures. For more benefits “aim for 150 minutes (2h30) of moderate-intensity activity per week (such as brisk walking or light cycling) or 75 minutes of intense activity (1h15) per week (running, water aerobics)“.
To this, Dr. Chopra specifies that it is important to add muscle strengthening sessions (with weights, bands or body weight) at least 10 minutes twice a week to preserve the muscles. If possible, the cardiologist recommends doing pull-ups on the horizontal bar: hold for 2 minutes for a man and 1 minute 30 for a woman. This is the best overall exercise for working muscles, posture and grip. “Bodybuilding is like a retirement savings plan“, he illustrates in his video posted on his Instagram account. A metaphor for perceiving regular investment as the means of ensuring an easier and more functional old age.
The cardiologist’s message is clear: there are no shortcuts to aging well and long. The real “medicine” for longevity is exercise discipline. It has no harmful side effects, it is effective against a wide range of diseases, and its effectiveness is exhaustively proven. So, rather than waiting for the next miracle pill, lace up your sneakers!
