For several weeks now, I haven’t washed my face in the morning. And my skin has never looked so beautiful…
What if changing a simple habit in your beauty routine had surprising results? Better yet, what if this modification was extraordinarily simple? If you are like me, you cleanse your face religiously every evening to remove makeup and remove impurities accumulated during the day, but also when you wake up. I have always stuck to this ritual, adopted during my adolescence and this beautiful period filled with acne. However, this would be a bad reflex to banish, which does more harm than good to the skin. Explanations.
A few weeks ago, I was asked to do a skin analysis with the Innerskin brand. The result is clear: if the general condition of my epidermis is rather good, the microbial balance is disturbed. The practitioner then launches into a series of questions before putting her finger on something: I clean my face in the morning. Yes, contrary to what my combination skin wanted me to believe, this is not necessary. The reason is quite simple: it naturally produces sebum, a fatty layer which protects it from external aggressions and nourishes it. Washing your face when you wake up alters the hydrolipidic film, and can dry and irritate the skin. The more it feels attacked, the more oils it will produce. A real vicious circle!
This is why professionals advise combination to oily skin to limit facial cleansing to the evening, using a gentle double makeup remover to eliminate all impurities. But this is not the only reason: during the night, the epidermis begins a process of cellular regeneration, and stripping it in the morning risks disrupting this mechanism. Finally, it can also upset the fragile balance of the microbiome. Faced with these observations, the professional offered me a simple alternative: just spray a mist of thermal water on my face, when I wake up. Faced with my skepticism, she insists: “Promise me to try, you will see that it will change your life.“
We have to admit that the expert was right. It’s been three weeks now since I changed my habits and the results are there: during the day, my skin shines less quickly. I no longer feel this feeling of tightness in my face which only soothes with three tons of moisturizer. My fear of not feeling clean in the morning when applying treatments quickly passed! Finally, the adage “Less is more” is true on the skin. Obviously, there are no absolute rules, and if you feel better by cleansing your face in the morning, by all means continue. But if you dream of soothed skin, simplicity may be the key.
