The International Seminar for Nuclear Peace, promoted by Civiltà dell’Amore and Assisi Strategic Forum, in which Cardinals and Bishops (Hiroshima and Assisi), nuclear experts from the USA, Russia and Italy, Witnesses of Peace will participate.
The Committee for a Civilization of Love and Assisi Strategic Forum, representatives of cultural associations of civil society reiterate the need for a shared commitment, between Christians and non-Christians, for nuclear disarmament and the consequent conversion of atomic weapons into energy useful to humanity.
It is necessary to start again from the nuclear non-proliferation treaty (nuclear disarmament for all); in fact the objective is to maintain dialogue to achieve nuclear peace, to aim for cooperation and not competition towards an effective Civilization of Love, increasingly necessary for all humanity.
With the strength of Faith and with non-violent means, we can and must commit ourselves to peace, but first of all to nuclear peace, applying the only concrete way available to humanity to destroy nuclear weapons definitively. This is only possible through the transformation, in existing nuclear reactors, of uranium and plutonium – the basic elements of every atomic bomb – into energy, which is increasingly necessary for life and the future on our planet.
