As she prepares to return to the tour, Julie Pietri does not have her tongue in her pocket. Especially when it comes to talking about your own career choices!
Next April, Julie Pietri will return to the stage for an event tour in France, Switzerland and Belgium. Invited to speak on this occasion on Nostalgie, the artist was extremely honest.
Julie Pietri, half fig, half grape with this hit: “It annoys me but…“
The hit singer Eve get up, “which is still the blockbuster that erased everything from the rest of (his) career sometimes”could not help but return to the history of this legendary title from the French repertoire. “And it annoys me”she also blurted out. Before qualifying his remarks: “But hey, it’s still very cool what happened on a song that I support 120% since it is both feminist, and at the same time mixes cultures with an oriental, orientalizing side”.
“It’s still nice if there’s even a single trace of this song left. But it wasn’t obvious at the time because I was thrown away.”nevertheless admitted the singer, now 70 years old. “I released this piece in March 1986 and people said to me: ‘What is this Arabist piece? What is your thing? (…) But are you homosexual? Or are you a feminist?’ Ah well I said: ‘Even if it was both, I’m proud of it!'”she said.
Julie Pietri announced “artistically dead” After Eve get up : “It was my song of liberation”
At the time of this song’s release, Julie Pietri had just changed her stage name – back to her last name – and she was releasing a song that, for most critics, would never work. “I was told, you are dead artistically, you don’t come back by changing your name in the middle of a career so this song will never work”she explained. But Manon’s mother (born in 1992 from her love affair with Yann Cortella), did not want to believe in the evil eye: “It was my own song of liberation. So Eve was a bit of me. I said to myself ‘it’s not possible, I feel something’”.
“They made remixes for me, we released them in nightclubs (…) And in mid-August, they called me in a hurry saying ‘it’s entered the top 50. We sell 1000 per day, 2000, 3000, 4000…’ It was crazy! And it’s true that at the beginning of November, I was first in the top 50, and I stayed six months, more than six months at the top 50”she finally enthused. Before concluding with mischief: “So it was pretty crazy for a song that was cursed, and a girl who had changed her name during her career who was cursed too…”
