There’s a new reason to get off at the stop Sant’Ambrogio of the M4 in Milan. From today, March 10, reaching the station platform means entering an art gallery that celebrates some of the most iconic symbols of the National Museum of Science and Technology Leonardo da Vinci. The protagonist is the gaze of Axel RuhomaullyBelgian-Mauritian artist capable of transforming industrial machinery and scientific models into authentic sculptural apparitions.
The creative process behind these works required years of dedication and an almost intimate relationship with the objects on display. «I have been working on this project with the Museum for four years», says Ruhomaully. «For a long time I came to work here at night, in silence, with the aim of highlighting the splendid permanent collection, shaping and giving shape to the objects through my light». Thanks to the light stencils technique, the artist sculpts the material in the dark, awakening colors and textures that transform the metal into poetry.
The idea of bringing these works underground was born from a shared intuition. «The creative director Bonaccorsi he proposed to me to bring the project inside the metro station”, continues the artist, “and it all started like this: with the desire to share the images created in recent years with the general public and show everyone how extraordinary this heritage is”.
The result is a visual journey of great impact: passengers find themselves face to face with the geometric perfection of a flying machine designed by Leonardo da Vinci, illuminated as if it were on a theater stage. However, the project does not remain confined underground, but emerges on the surface involving the external tower of the elevator in via San Vittore 7, which becomes a real visual and cultural signal for passers-by.
Also for Metro 4 SpAthe operation represents an investment in the quality of citizens’ time. President Alessandro Lamberti underlined how the M4 must not only be an efficient and sustainable infrastructure, but an environment capable of positively impacting the urban experience. The subway is thus transformed into a place of encounter with beauty, where the technology of the past and the mobility of the future run on the same tracks.
