In 2026 the historic children’s fiction brand Il Mulino a Vento of the Raffaello Publishing Group celebrates 30 years since the first publication. An important anniversary for a series that has made the history of reading education in schools, an aspect of education that seems to be increasingly important to act as an antidote to the spread of the indiscriminate use of devices and on which a few days ago, among others, the psychologist, among others, expressed his opinion Paolo Crepet who commenting on the terrible episode of Trescore declared: «Let’s start with children, giving them illustrated books to read. There is no point in acting at the last second to prevent crimes if nothing is done beforehand.”

Born with the aim of combining narrative as a transversal educational tool with school teaching, Il Mulino a Vento today represents a point of reference for literature for children and pre-adolescents, with hundreds of titles, new series and an audience of readers aged 6 to 14. Children’s fiction is intended as a transversal educational tool, enhancing the educational power of stories. The project is structured into three historic series by age group – Yellow, Red and Blue – and evolves over time to become a real editorial system, with hundreds of titles, new series and a loyal audience of readers aged 6 to 15.

Today Il Mulino a Vento represents a narrative attentive to civic values, inclusion, sustainability and personal growthwith strong editorial, graphic and didactic care, in constant dialogue with innovation and contemporary educational needs.

To celebrate this thirty-year anniversary, among the various initiatives also the national competition for primary school classes “Create your own cover – Il Mulino a Vento”. Knowing the world of books does not only mean understanding the stories it conveys, but also learning to decipher the book-object in its entirety: text, images, colours, graphics, visual project. First of all, the cover. The objective of the competition “is to accompany girls and boys in discovering this fundamental component of the book, often little explored, especially in its aesthetic and communicative dimension. The competition, aimed at primary school classesinvites you to plan and draw a new cover for a book in the Il Mulino a Vento serieschosen from the titles published during its thirty years of history, by important authors of which we will limit ourselves to mentioning, among others, Silvia Roncaglia, Fulvia Degl’Innocenti, Giuditta Campello, Roberto Morgese, Guido Quarzo, Paola Valente…
