NASA has just released the first historic images of the Artemis II mission during a spectacular lunar flyby. This is the first time in more than 50 years since the Apollo mission that humans have seen the Moon this close.
The Artemis II mission marks humanity’s historic return to the Moon, more than 50 years after the Apollo program. After a successful takeoff on April 1, 2026 from Florida, the four astronauts aboard the Orion spacecraft (Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen) undertake a 10-day journey to test survival systems in deep space. This journey culminated on April 6, 2026 with a spectacular flyby of the far side of the Moon, paving the way for future permanent lunar installations. This is the crucial step before the Artemis III mission places humans on the surface of our satellite again by 2027 or 2028. Here are their first photos.
