This couple in their forties has three children: two boys and a little girl, still newborn. When the family grew, they looked for a more spacious apartment and found this beautiful 130 m² in the very popular 9th arrondissement. They wanted five bedrooms and the apartment only had four, two of which were offices. “The challenge was to succeed in creating four real rooms of at least 9 m² each, so that they would be counted as such at the time of resale”specifies Adelaïde Quenin, the architect in charge of the project. The parents wanted to separate the children’s space and move it away from the parental bedroom. We also had to find a solution to bring the kitchen closer to the living space, as it was located at the other end of the apartment. And the decoration also needed to be rethought.
Resolve inconsistencies in the initial plan
The office opening onto the dining room has been transformed into a kitchen. It made more sense to put it here, even if the slightly odd shape of the piece didn’t make the task easy. The old kitchen has become little Hortense’s bedroom. For the boys, Adelaïde Quenin divided the large 19.98 m² room which had two windows into two. The small living room, which existed in addition to the living room, became the guest bedroom. There was also a lack of a toilet, accessible from the living space side. Here again, the architect reversed the opening of the one which opened onto the old kitchen. To meet customer expectations, the professional systematically found a well-thought-out solution and every square centimeter was thus optimized. The accommodation has also taken on a few colors and gained in style. After transformation, it has become a real warm and functional cocoon for the whole family.
