Between sizes that vary from brand to brand and fits that never fall exactly as expected, finding the perfect denim shorts is far from easy.

The arrival of sunny days puts denim shorts back at the center of the wardrobe every year. But when putting it on, many make the same observation: it is perfect on the thighs, length or hips, but floats slightly at the waist. A detail that completely changes the look of a garment. Between high-waisted models that gape in the back and those that relax after a few hours, it’s not uncommon to find yourself with shorts that slip or simply lack support.

Indeed, not everyone has the same body shape and not all clothes adapt to all silhouettes. Some people have a pronounced waist and wider hips, others find themselves between two sizes and have to choose between a model that is too tight or slightly too big. Added to this are the manufacturing differences between brands, further complicating the search for the ideal shorts. Result: many clothes end up in the back of a closet even though they could still be worn.

In this context, several solutions already exist, but they often have drawbacks. Alterations carried out by a professional represent an additional cost, sometimes exceeding the price of the garment itself. Others choose to use a belt, but this can change the silhouette of the shorts and does not always match the desired style. Improvised tricks, like elastics passed through the button or clips discreetly hidden at the back, help out in the moment but rarely remain convincing over time.

Thus, fake removable metal buttons, sold in batches for 5.99 euros on Amazon, are becoming more and more popular. They look like classic jean buttons but work with a detachable fastening system. Simply insert the small rod into the waistband of the shorts, a few inches from the original button, then lock the clip in the back. The new closing point then allows the waist to be tightened by a few centimeters. The shorts retain their cut and the result remains barely visible when the fit remains moderate.

However, like any trick, this one has its limits. It won’t turn oversized shorts into perfectly fitted clothing. On the other hand, to correct a slight sagging at the waist or compensate for the natural relaxation of the fabric, it meets a very concrete need. The binding holds well throughout the day and the particularly thin upper does not leave a mark in the denim. However, one precaution is still recommended: remove the button before putting it in the machine to prevent it from coming off during washing.
