What is the role of music in the psychophysical and relational development of humans and, first of all, of children? What are the complex and fascinating interactions between sound and the brain and what weight do they play? The way our mind processes sounds is one of the most difficult tasks we ask of our brain. It is dedicated to the relationship between music and development the 12th System Week in Lombardy, promoted by SONG ETSthe association which, inspired by the model of “El Sistema”, founded in Venezuela by José Antonio Abreu and brought to Italy by Claudio Abbado, develops social integration and inclusion projects based on making music together.
A thematic mini-festival, with 6 events, from 17 to 24 November – between Milan, Brescia, Treviglio in the Bergamo area and two online events – with the aim of spreading and enhancing the beauty of music and its enormous valuestill very underestimated today, in the psychophysical development of children and young people, and in their ability to relate to others.
Power2Musicthis is the title that emblematically summarizes the events, activities and meetings that make up the 2024 event – it will open on Sunday 17 November, at 4pm at the Teatro Nuovo in Treviglio for La Terra nelle nostri mani: a show that through words, sound and gestures launches a precious message of love and care for our planet. The event involves the Manos Blancas Choir of the Cooperativa Insieme of Treviglio and is a new step in an inclusion path dedicated to special skills that the Cooperative creates in collaboration with SONG (free entry upon reservation: [email protected]).
The program
Music and neuroscience – The close relationship between child neurology and music is at the center of the event on Wednesday 20 November, at the San Barnaba Auditorium in Brescia. At 6 pm, the concert for the 30th anniversary of the GIPCI – Italian Infantile Cerebral Palsy Group will be held, as part of the The young musicians of SONG meet the students of the “Luca Marenzio” Conservatory of Brescia, giving life to MUSIC SIDE BY SIDE, a concert directed by Mº Carlo Taffuri. Thanks to the “side by side” formula, the concert allows young musicians from different backgrounds and educational backgrounds to meet and merge their experiences. The program includes a colorful program of music from the world, from Italian folklore to South American melodies, including pages by Bizet and Mussorgsky.
The value of music and sound processing in the development of the human brain is the common thread around which the online meeting is developed, scheduled for Thursday 21st, at 6pm, created in collaboration between SONG and the Mariani Foundation: a panel dedicated to the complex and fascinating interactions between sound and the brain. Nina Kraus, professor of neurobiology, communication sciences, linguistics and otolaryngology at the Northwestern University of Chicago (USA), author of The sonorous mind | How our brain processes the sounds around us (Hogrefe Editore) explains how understanding sound is one of the most difficult tasks we ask our brain to perform, showing for the first time how sound processing drives many of the fundamental functions of the brain. Also taking part in the round table will be Silvia Bonacina, research project manager at the Brainvolts laboratory at Northwestern University and Tomaso Vecchi, professor of cognitive and experimental psychology at the University of Pavia (the live broadcast will be held at this link).
The events of the 12th System Week in Lombardy complete the online meeting on Friday 22.11 (3.30 pm) Sistema Europe Networking Meeting, to learn about the broad international horizon of Sistema Europe, a European network that has been in dialogue with over 100 “Sistema-inspired” programs since 2012 (to participate: info@sistemaeurope .org); the interactive educational laboratory conducted by Nicola Monzino, scheduled for Saturday 23.11 (10 am) at the EDI Barrio’s Theater in Milan, which will reveal to the young participants the fascinating secrets of the luthier’s profession (promoted by the AC Monzino Foundation, free entry upon reservation: info@ sistemalombardia.eu); and the final Altrimusice event, scheduled for Sunday 24.11 (6pm) at the MAGNETE Auditorium, included in the schedule of the “Adriano Community Days” promoted by the MAGNETE network, which unites two youth groups of the Nucleo Associato L’altramusica: the wind instruments of Soufflé Ensemble and L’altramusica Sinfonietta. L’altramusica is one of the most important music schools in the Lombardy system: it has been operating in Milan in Corso Buenos Aires for 17 years, promoting quality musical education and the diffusion of culture.
