Choosing the right eye contour when the first signs of aging appear is an important step. What if we followed the recommendations of a dermatologist?
The eye area is an integral part of our skin care routines. Therefore, choosing the right one for the issues you wish to address is extremely important. “It is a complicated exercise because the area is particular. There are many things: vascular factors, a little excess skin in mature epidermis, in the morning there can be edema“, explains Dr. Martine Baspeyras, dermatologist and spokesperson for the French Society of Dermatology. Sometimes, we also find fatty pockets, pigment spots and other joys (sorry for this depressing introduction). Indeed, when we get older in particular, the epidermis faces many changes: a drop in hydration, a loss of elasticity and sometimes more marked signs of fatigue.
The first step in choosing the right cream according to the professional? Make sure that the lucky lady has good eye tolerance. “You need to check that these are really products that are suitable for the eye contour. Otherwise you can end up with swollen eyes in the morning. It’s not good at all.“Among his favorite brands? SVR and Bioderma laboratories. The products of these two brands are generally very well tolerated, and above all very gentle.”I also like Retinol Boost from Neutrogena which is taken in the evening, but in small doses. It works well“, says Dr Baspeyras. Its promises: to combat fine lines and crow’s feet, while hydrating the skin and improving the appearance of the complexion. Available in supermarkets and online, this cream costs only €16.99 or less depending on the resellers.
In the morning, the dermatologist recommends focusing on lighter eye contours, with hyaluronic acid or vitamin derivatives. “We will put them in by tapping lightly with the pad of the finger, this at the same time creates a little lymphatic drainage.“This gesture is ideal for reducing the appearance of bags, for example, and giving you a more alert look. Compresses or a cold washcloth also help to provide slight lymphatic drainage of the eyelid if it is swollen in the morning.
On the other hand, Dr Baspeyras wishes to warn: “There are people who think that with an eye cream they will avoid eyelid surgery. Absolutely not. You have to have reasoned expectations.“So this treatment will mainly allow mature skin to maintain hydration, especially when the epidermis tends to lose water more quickly.
