Actress Carole Bouquet takes advantage of every free time between filming to go to the island of Pantelleria, in Sicily, where she has been producing her wine for two decades.

Where does Carole Bouquet live? The movie star, who is sporting a surprising new hair look, spends most of her time on the island of Pantelleria, located between Sicily and Tunisia. At 68 years old, she has been producing her wine there for around twenty years and welcomes her entire clan.

Carole Bouquet: what does Pantelleria, her haven of peace, look like?

It was after meeting an Italian architect that Carole Bouquet decided to discover the island of Pantelleria. “He explains to me that the island of Pantelleria, a volcanic rock lost between Sicily and Tunisia, is full of treasures. I went there“, she explained to Figaroin 2023.

The actress fell in love with this place to the point of treating herself to a “piece of land“. Now she lives in Scauri, where “there are few things“, but which has become its haven of peace. There we find “a port, a pharmacy, a church, a discussion circle, with one side reserved for men and another for women, a cinema and a billiard room reserved for members“.

This is where Carole Bouquet had the idea of producing her own wine. “In fact, without really knowing or wanting to, I bought vines. At first I sold the grapes to wine producers. Very quickly, I decided to make my own passito“, she confided. Now, she is particularly proud of her Sangue d’Oro white wine vintage. “I need abundance and my wine looks like that. Its color is that of the complexion of Italian Madonnas. This wine suits me, me who loves the smell of light, garlic and basil“, she detailed.

If Gérard Depardieu’s ex-partner takes pleasure in her activity as a winemaker, it is not particularly profitable. “It costs me a fortune to make this wine. But in the end, I don’t lose money. Either way, I have to continue. By stopping, I would have the impression of betraying this land with which I have no ties“, she confided.

“Pantelleria is the acquisition of my life”

His house under the Sicilian sun has changed a lot over the years: “There were four walls. Today a little more. At my house, there are at least fourteen of us. Sometimes fifty when I make pizza or ice cream. Ultimately, Pantelleria is the acquisition of my life, all the others I sold”, said Carole Bouquet, who likes to share photos of her family visiting her estate, on Instagram.

And this vineyard is a family business. “I came here with my husband (producer Jean-Pierre Rassam, editor’s note). My brother-in-law, Paul Rassam, always very close to me for forty years, has remained a regular here (…) This house, this vineyard, this wine, I will pass them on to my children (Dimitri Rassam and Louis Giacobetti, editor’s note)who will be able to take care of it while keeping their professional activity“, she concluded.
