This year, third-year students taking their certificate will have to adapt to the changes planned by the Ministry of National Education. Here are the expected developments for middle school students as well as the dates for the 2025 certificate, which validates the skills acquired before entering high school.
What are the dates of the 2025 patent tests?
This year, the written patent tests will take place, for all candidates, on Thursday June 26 and Friday June 27, 2025 for the normal session, and Monday September 8 and Tuesday September 9, 2025 for the replacement session.
The modern foreign language test specific to individual candidates will be held on Friday June 27, 2025 for the normal session and Tuesday September 9, 2025 for the replacement session.
What is changing for the history-geography test and the EMC?
On November 12, Anne Genetet, then Minister of National Education, presented her new measures as part of the patent reform. Thus, from June 2025, “the national patent diploma will be restructured with separate notes for history-geography and moral and civic education (EMC)” specifies the ministry. Next year, in June 2026, “the patent will see the weight of its final tests reinforced”, it is specified.
A new mention for the 2025 patent
As for the baccalaureate, the college student can have a mention in the patent. And this year, a brand new term is being introduced. It is marked “Very good with congratulations from the jury”. Remember that students who obtain the average (400 points out of 800 or just a little more) have the certificate, but without distinction.
- Fairly good mention: at least equal to 480 points out of 800.
- Good mention: at least equal to 560 points out of 800.
- Very good mention: if you have more than 640 points out of 800.
When does the certificate become compulsory for entry to high school?
The Ministry of National Education specifies that the certificate will become a compulsory requirement for entry into second year, from the 2027 session.
What is the average for admission to the patent?
For candidates with educational status, the average to obtain the college certificate is 400 points. In fact, the national patent diploma is rated on a total of 800 points : 400 points are awarded for continuous assessment for the evaluation of the base and 400 points for the final tests. For students in international or Franco-German sections, the Brevet diploma is evaluated on 900 points. As for individual candidates, the evaluation is based on 400 points.
The different certificate tests and continuous assessment are evaluated according to a certain number of points. Here are the details of the points per teaching:
Evaluation of the base in continuous monitoring
- 10 points if the candidate obtains the “Insufficient mastery” level
- 25 points if he obtains the “Fragile Mastery” level
- 40 points if he obtains the “Satisfactory mastery” level
- 50 points if he obtains the “Very good mastery” level.
Evaluation of the final tests
- French test on 100 points
- Mathematics test on 100 points
- History-Geography test, moral and civic teaching on 50 points
- Science test (average of the averages of the first two terms of the three disciplines) on 50 points.
