In the height of summer, the garden shower quickly becomes a must. Ideal for cooling off and rinsing before diving into the pool, it combines comfort and everyday practicality. Easy to install, it is now available in many models and at all prices. All you have to do is choose the one that will best suit your exterior.

When temperatures rise, the garden shower provides real comfort on a daily basis. In addition to offering a refreshing break, it is ideal for rinsing off before diving into the pool or when getting out.

Far from the solar camping shower, the garden shower requires real installation. There are two ways to supply it with water:

  • either by connecting it directly to your garden hose,
  • or by connecting it to the drinking water network.
  • Note that it is however prohibited to install an outdoor shower on a rainwater collector.

There are outdoor showers fixed – ideal if you have a swimming pool – or mobile. This nomadic version allows you to move it according to your needs. In this case, the shower column is connected to the garden hose. So remember to favor sunny places to heat the water in the circuit. Concerning fixed models, it is important to provide a drainage system at the foot of the shower.

Which outdoor shower to choose?

There are many garden shower kits. They consist of a base, a column and a shower headsometimes of a faucet and tank. They require no welding or masonry. Sunday DIY enthusiasts will have no trouble assembling and fixing an outdoor shower.
Besides the design (contemporary, exotic, etc.) and the material used (teak, stainless steel, zinc, etc.), the first question to ask yourself to make the right choice concerns the use of the shower. Do you want a backup installation with fresh water? Or do you prefer a comfortable outdoor shower equipped with a hot/cold water mixer?
An external water supply is necessarily cold. And although many models include a solar water storage and heating system, this only guarantees a lukewarm shower. To benefit from an outdoor shower worthy of a bathroom, you will need to carry out a connection to the hot water tank in your home.

The garden shower supplied with cold water only is ideal for hot regions. It is an extra shower, intended for refreshing yourself or rinsing off quickly. She can be connected to your outdoor tap via your garden hose. You can choose it fixed or mobile. Once the shower kit is assembled, simply anchor the base to the ground to ensure its stability. You can also provide a small pit covered with a grating for good water reception as well as a small slope so that the water drains correctly without stagnating.

If you are planning to use your garden as a new bathroom during the summer and you plan to use soap or shampoo, then it is best to install a hot/cold water shower. The operation is more expensive because it will require creating holes in the wall to connect to the hot water tank. This type of installation will also increase water and heating bills because showers will necessarily be longer than with a cold water shower. Additionally, a sewage connection of housing is essential.

Where to install your outdoor shower?

In order to best install your garden shower, it should be placed near a water supply. This will help you avoid too much work. Be sure to erect it on a flat surface, in a location exposed to the sun, especially if your shower is equipped with a water tank and a solar heating system.

If it is a pool shower, install it near the pool, on the slabsso as not to get your feet dirty before swimming.

For a refreshing shower, opt for a small corner in the greenery, out of sight, and check that your garden hose is long enough.

How much does an outdoor shower cost?

There are garden showers at all prices. From the simple model at 25 euros to the luxury version priced at 2,000 eurosthe price range is considerable. Most major DIY brands sell outdoor showers in kit between 80 and 200 euros depending on their design, material and equipment. Models equipped with mixers can reach 900 euros.
