It is often believed that the best theme parks are in the United States. Disneyland, Universal Studios or the enormous Asian complexes generally monopolize the rankings. However, this year, the favorite park of travelers from all over the world is neither American nor Japanese… it is French!
THE Tripadvisor Travelers’ Choice Awards have just delivered their verdict after compiling millions of reviews left by visitors. Result: a French park takes first place in the world in the amusement and water parks category, ahead of Ferrari World Abu Dhabi, winner of the previous edition. We also find in this ranking behemoths of the sector such as Beto Carrero World in Brazil or Waterbom Bali in Indonesia, capable of attracting tens of millions of visitors each year. Even more surprising, this park comes ahead of Disneyland Paris (4th in the ranking) and Puy du Fou (7th), two references when it comes to leisure in France.
What appeals here is not the classic recipe of the repeated roller coaster or the mascots all over the aisles. The park plays in another category. Its terrain is immersion, technology and experiences that really give the impression of entering a science fiction setting. Since the end of the 1980s, he has developed a separate model, based on giant projections, special effects and interactive attractions. You don’t need to be a fan of extreme sensations to find what you’re looking for: the unmissable Futuroscope, located in Vienne, attracts families as much as fans of more spectacular experiences.
Very concretely, visitors can test the “Tornado Hunters” attraction by finding themselves in the middle of a giant tornado thanks to a rotating platform at the heart of the largest indoor LED screen in the world. It was also voted best attraction of the year 2022 and received the innovation prize. Thrill seekers can also board a roller coaster with the “Objectif Mars” experience. Here they will face electromagnetic fields and solar flares with top speeds of up to 55 km/h. And, in terms of aquatic attractions, everything happens in the Aquascope, already voted the best water park in the world even though it was inaugurated in July 2024. The “Bermuda Mission” is one of the must-sees. The idea is to board a ride on a rail, but also in the water thanks to new technology. Also, “Kiné’Eau” will delight the youngest with its mysterious cavern, in the water, surrounded by a 270-degree screen where the stars parade.
Note that the park also focuses a lot on what happens next to the attractions. At lunchtime, as at dinner, the “Space Loop” restaurant offers a real culinary experience during which the ordered dishes pass through a whole system of rails in the middle of the establishment to arrive hot directly at the table. In addition, at nightfall, visitors can stay to watch the great nighttime spectacle called “The Key to Dreams”which has become one of the unmissable events. Between water games, lasers, XXL projections and light effects, the evening looks more like an immersive show than a classic fireworks display.
Finally, it is possible to sleep in completely different hotels. The one called “Cosmos Station” has 4 stars and its rooms look like astronaut cabins, with added comfort. Another option, the “Ecolodgee” hotel in the middle of nature with large bay windows to contemplate the stars. These are also the kinds of details that come up regularly in reviews published online.
