The list of feminicides in Italy continues to grow. Alessandra Bruno, 49 years old, has died in hospital after being brutally attacked in her home in Misterbianco, in the Catania area. The woman was hospitalized in very serious conditions on the night between 29 and 30 May, after a violent attack that occurred in front of his children. For the Prosecutor’s Office, which is investigating the matter, the accusation against the husband, a 53 year old man already arrested after the eventsis destined to worsen after the woman’s death.
The attack in front of the children
The tragedy occurred inside the house where the family lived. According to initial reconstructions, the woman was apparently hit violently on the head with a blunt instrument at the end of an argument that broke out during the night. The couple’s children were also present at the scene. It was one of the girls who called the police for help. The operator of the operations center remained on the phone with the young woman until help arrived, trying to reassure her and monitor what was happening. When the military arrived on site they found Alessandra Bruno on the ground, unconscious and with a serious head wound.
Hospitalization and death in hospital
The 49-year-old was urgently transported to the Garibaldi-Centro hospital in Catania she had undergone a delicate surgery. Doctors attempted to save her life, but her injuries proved too serious. In the last few hours the news of the death arrived, transforming what was initially disputed as an attempted femicide in yet another murder of a woman within the family.
The investigations of the Prosecutor’s Office
The investigation is coordinated by the vulnerable groups section of the Catania Prosecutor’s Office, directed by the deputy prosecutor Liana Todaro. Investigators are working to reconstruct the dynamics of the attack in detail and ascertain any responsibility. The victim’s husband was arrested immediately after the events. With the woman’s death, her judicial position is destined to be re-evaluated in light of the new accusatory framework.
Misterbianco stops to mourn
The death of Alessandra Bruno profoundly shook the Misterbianco community. Mayor Marco Corsaro has announced the cancellation of the city events planned for Republic Dayas a sign of closeness to the family.
It has also been organized for June 3rd a torchlight procession of solidarity and memory of womenwhile the city prepares to pay homage to her and reflect on a tragedy that once again brings the issue of violence against women to the center.
