While a long commission of inquiry into public broadcasting (and its expenses) has caused a lot of ink to flow, the presence at the Cannes Film Festival of the “C à Vous” team did not fail to provoke a reaction from Internet users…
The 79th edition of the Cannes Film Festival, under the leadership of mistress of ceremonies Eye Haïdara, started on May 12. And France Télévisions is the broadcaster. On the Croisette, movie stars arrived by the dozen. But this is also the case for the team of C to you. For the fourth consecutive year, the talk show hosted by Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine on France 5 has relocated its set next to the Palais des Festivals. And the criticism is already pouring in…
“It’s always nice to see what our money is used for” : Internet users are outraged by the presence of C to you in Cannes
For two weeks, Anne-Élisabeth Lemoine and her team will host C to you from Cannes. And the presenter promised to receive a slew of actors on her set to give pride of place to cinema. But this highlighting of the 7th Art, in the splendor of the Croisette, does not convince everyone. It must be said that tempers have been heated for weeks, following the multiple revelations on public broadcasting expenditure during the parliamentary commission of inquiry led by rapporteur Charles Alloncle…
On the show’s TikTok account, incendiary comments are pouring out: “How much more is this show going to cost us?“, “How much are the rooms this year??“, “France Télé in Cannes with taxpayers’ money! Even Canal+ left the festival a long time ago to save money”, “Is it really normal to have to pay for this at a time when we should be careful with our spending??” ou again “It’s always nice to see what our money is being used for.”

France Télévisions reduces costs for the Cannes Film Festival: the budget granted for the hotel
However, France Télévisions had tried to anticipate possible criticism. So, C to youhe travels in a small group with Anne-Elisabeth Lemoine, Pierre Lescure, Bertrand Chameroy and Louise Ekland. And there is no question of staying in the palaces of the Croisette.
As reported PuremediasStéphane Sitbon-Gomez (number 2 of France Télévisions) announced a reduced budget: “No employee of the chain will stay in a hotel whose rate exceeds 500 euros per night. The rule we have set is that there will no longer be anyone in any large hotel who exceeds these rates.”
And to specify: “With the exception of those who are invited by the Cannes Film Festival such as the President of France Télévisions (Delphine Ernotte, editor’s note) who has always been invited by the Cannes Film Festival. So it doesn’t cost France Télévisions anything.”
