And the least we can say is that the exercise is far from easy. From the famous white dress to the accessories, including the hairstyle and of course the shoes, everything must be calculated to combine allure and comfort, elegance and practicality. And the creators understood that well. Flowing dresses, soft and light materials, shortened trains, removable sleeves, 2-in-1 outfits… Freedom of movement is the watchword of modern brides.
And fashion will never cease to surprise us in this area. In 2026, traditional high and painful heels are being put back in the closet: here again, comfort is king. If many had already tried to remedy this problem by swapping them for smaller heels, or even pretty flat ballerinas or even trendy white sneakers, a brand has broken the rules even more with its very first “Bridal” collection unveiled at the end of January. One thing is certain, we would never have imagined seeing these shoes under a white dress.
Who could have predicted that one day, wearing “Birks” on your wedding day would become the new trend to follow? However, this is exactly what is in store for this year’s lucky winners. The famous German brand Birkenstock, known for its orthopedic shoes which have become symbols of absolute comfort, has decided to team up with Danielle Frankel Hirsch. An icon of New York chic, the wedding dress designer has imagined a totally unexpected collection by revisiting the brand’s flagship models. White satin replaces raw leather, while pearly pearls, romantic bows or delicate flowers adorn the straps. Even the future bride and groom are not left out, since the collection offers a black version for a matching duo right down to the tips of their toes.
This exclusive capsule, expected for mid-February on the respective sites of the two brands, is clearly positioned in a luxury segment. And boldness comes at a cost, far from the German house’s usual prices: between approximately 550 and 800 euros per pair. It remains to be seen whether 2026 brides will be ready to abandon traditional heeled shoes to adopt this trend that is as offbeat as it is unexpected.
