While she will very soon unveil a new album, “Confessions II”, Madonna opened the doors of her London home to “Vogue Italy”. The opportunity for the Queen of Pop to tell the story of her “favorite object in the world”…
Madonna has always unleashed passions. And his daily life questions fans around the world. Recently, she revealed herself a little more by welcoming to her home, in London, the prestigious magazine Vogue Italy.
Madonna reveals ‘one of her favorite things in the whole world’
To begin her room tour, Our Lady led the journalists into her office, a room in which she never works, to listen to her. However, she exhibits several very important objects for her, starting with her favorite one in the world: a self-portrait of Frida Kahlo. A painting which sits on the main wall of the room, and which was very well highlighted by the 67-year-old singer. His name: Self-portrait with monkey. It was made in 1940, when Frida Kahlo was going through a divorce, and is a centerpiece of her work. Moreover, Madonna chose to lend it to the Tate Modern, a London museum, in 2001. “Lending my Frida to the Tate is a bit like parting with one of my precious children, but I know that the work will be in good hands and that the exhibition would not be complete without it,” the Material Girl then declared.
“Tonight I want to show you one of my favorite things in the whole world”began the Pop star. And to continue: “It’s a painting that Frida Kahlo painted of herself. She often painted herself with monkeys on her shoulders”. Obviously informed, the mother continued: “She had a lot of monkeys because she trained them to let her know when her husband (Diego Rivera, editor’s note) had slept with another woman. If he came home, and he had spent quality time with one of his female models, which he often did, the monkeys got angry…”.
Madonna and her “eternal muse” : which artist meant a lot to the Madonna?
Before leading our colleagues from Vogue Italy in other important rooms at home, Madonna, who will unveil a new album, Confessions IIon July 3, detailed his very intimate relationship with this painting. “In high school, there was only one museum you could visit, the Detroit Institute of Art. The first time I went there, there were huge Diego Rivera paintings all over the wall. But what really attracted me were the little, somewhat hidden photos of this beautiful Mexican woman. I was really drawn to her self-possession, her unique beauty, and that touched me. She became an eternal muse for me.”she first said.
And it’s up to her to detail: “A few years later, I left Detroit for New York, and while walking around, I noticed a postcard of this painting. It was my first five minutes in New York, and the first person I saw was Frida! I promised myself that one day I would own this painting. 11 years later, it was put up for auction, and I bought it!”. Before concluding: “She gives me a lot of strength!”.
