Before the return of the cold weather, this piece worn by royals has always established itself as the ideal solution for staying warm with elegance.

The cold sets in, temperatures drop and winter imposes its rhythm. Every morning, the same desire comes back: to cover up, to protect yourself, to warm up. But without sacrificing style. This season again, there is no question of wrapping yourself up in three unsightly layers or wearing a ski jacket in the city. The good news? Winter fashion has found the ideal solution to combine warmth and allure.

The centerpiece of the winter wardrobe, the coat is the most obvious – and most desirable – answer. It structures a silhouette, signs a look and goes through the season with confidence. Moreover, it has never left the shoulders of the most elegant women, starting with crowned heads. Letizia from Spain, Kate Middleton and Maxima from the Netherlands have made it their uniform in the face of freezing temperatures. Their choice invariably falls on the same model: the long coat. A sure value, both chic and functional. It lengthens the silhouette, refines the lines and wraps the body with elegance. In wool or cashmere, it effectively protects from the cold while offering a sophisticated look, without apparent effort. As stylist Erin Noël points out in Women.com: “the coat is no longer a simple utilitarian garment: it is the central piece that defines an entire outfit in winter“. A statement which explains why short or overly technical models are losing ground in favor of long and structured cuts.

To find the perfect long coat, a few rules are essential. First, choose a quality material: virgin wool, alpaca or cashmere blends, a guarantee of warmth and durability. Next, pay attention to the cut: straight for a minimalist look, belted to emphasize the waist, slightly oversized for an assertive fashion touch. In terms of colors, timeless shades like camel, gray, black or ecru remain safe values, while a deep blue or forest green brings a more contemporary note. Easy to wear, the long coat goes with everything: over a suit, a midi dress, jeans and boots, or even with sneakers to break the rules.

Good news, it exists at all prices. At Zara, H&M or Uniqlo, you can find them for between €80 and €200. Mango and COS offer models around €200 to €300, while Sandro, Maje or Max Mara create premium pieces that can exceed €800, designed to last for years.

Choosing a long coat this winter isn’t just about following a trend: it’s about investing in a strong, elegant and timeless piece, capable of going through the seasons in style.
