Doing everything on foot is the dream of many locals and tourists looking for more authentic and gentler trips. That’s good, this extremely touristy city has just been voted the most pedestrian city in the world!

As walking is still very popular with tourists, the walkability of a city has become an important ingredient for a pleasant city break. Result: some cities are doing well because they adopted slow life many years ago. To make our lives easier, Hellotickets, the tourism platform well known to travel aficionados, has just established a ranking of the most pedestrian cities in the world. In the selected cities, everything is accessible on foot, and walking is largely preferred, if not obligatory!
To establish such a list, Hellotickets combed through the space given to pedestrians in cities, the density of remarkable monuments accessible on foot, the ease of visiting without using the car… And they assigned tourist walkability ratings. On the first three steps of the podium, we find European cities located in three different countries.
According to the travel platform, the Finnish capital Helsinki comes in third place with a score of 88/100 for tourist walkability. Valued for its status as a capital on a human scale and its calm, Nordic and bright atmosphere, it allows travelers to visit parks, museums, port and market halls in no time… And exclusively on foot! Moreover, the city is so fond of this way of life that it has just inaugurated the longest pedestrian bridge in the world.
Pontevedra in Spain takes the silver medal in this ranking. The Galician city even obtains a score of 94/100 for tourist walkability. A remarkable score that it owes to a historic center which is made up of squares, terraces and shopping streets which can only be discovered on foot. But it is Venice which obtains the best score with no less than 96/100 in tourist walkability. If Rome is a destination that is best visited on foot, Venice is even more convenient for pedestrians.
