A valuable ally for cleaning, the microfiber cloth allows you to clean and degrease without using products. More ecological, it constitutes an alternative to the often chemical cleaners found in our cupboards. Practical at home, it is also very effective for dusting the interior of your car. Focus on the microfiber cloth.

Summary

For several years, the microfiber cloth has transformed the household. Its composition makes it a more natural and environmentally friendly solution, while offering formidable effectiveness in eliminating dust and dirt.

In addition to its cleaning and non-abrasive qualities, the microfiber cloth fits everywhere thanks to its thin thickness. This way you can do your housework much faster.

Ecological because it does not require no added chemicals to be effective, it also consumes very little water. A study by a Californian university medical center revealed that it used up to 95% less water to clean the floor (the microfiber cloth also exists in a mop version).

What is microfiber?

Microfiber is a fabric made up of tiny synthetic fibers, a mixture of polyamide and polyester. They are particularly effective in cleaning because the electrostatic properties of polyester attract and retain dust in the cloth. For its part, polyamide has significant absorbent power. It is therefore very useful for absorbing water and grease. Thus, the microfiber cloth offers incomparable qualities:

Contrary to popular belief, microfiber cloth is made of nothing other than synthetic fibers. Which allows it many uses, dry or wet.

Dry: It eliminates dust by trapping it in its fibers, unlike conventional rags which only move it. It cleans glass surfaces without scratching them. Ideal for washing tiles and mirrors.

Wet: it detaches and degreases, without having to add cleaning product. Perfect for the worktop, splashback and hob.

Which microfiber cloth to choose?

If some sets of microfiber cloths have very attractive prices, be sure to compare their cost with other microfiber cloths. Quantity should not prevail at the expense of quality.

To be effective and resistant, your microfiber cloth must be dense to the touch and trimmed with stitched edges securely to prevent it from fraying.

The composition is also important. It must display at least 30% polyamide for good effectiveness once wet.

Depending on the type of weave, it will be appropriate to use it for proper cleaning. Fine microfibers are designed for fragile surfaces, unlike thicker cloths which will clean floors. There are also multi-surface microfibers.

Very resistant over time, the microfiber cloth can – if it is well maintained – be used and washed on average 300 times before seeing its cleaning properties altered.

Although some microfibre cloths can be washed at 60°C, it is advisable to opt for one machine cycle at 40°C to be sure not to damage them. Never use bleach or fabric softener; they would clog the pores of the microfiber and reduce its effectiveness. Dry your microfiber cloths in the open air. Tumble drying could damage the fibers. Finally, store them in a dry place.
