Paying full price for Netflix, Disney+, Amazon Prime or even ChatGPT? It’s no longer worth it thanks to this method, adopted by more than a million French people, which allows you to keep your subscriptions without blowing your budget. But be careful, it could disappear as early as 2026.

7.99 euros for Netflix, then 12.14 euros for Spotify, and another 6.99 euros for Disney+… What if we added a Canal+ subscription? Amazon Prime? YouTube Premium? And why not ChatGPT? The result is having to tighten your belt at the end of the month to be able to watch your favorite series, even at the minimum price. And the final blow when your favorite program disappears from the catalog to end up on another platform… so you’re tempted to pay more. We think in particular of the fervent fans of Friends for example, who now pay an additional 5.99 euros to access HBO Max and continue laughing at the most famous American sitcom.

Luckily, some have invented a system to avoid bankruptcy and therefore benefit from premium subscriptions at a lower cost. Because not everyone can convince their loved ones to take out a subscription for each streaming application. This is where the shared subscription system comes in… with strangers.

Several sites already exist: Spliiit, GamsGo and ShareSub, for the best known. For the first alone, more than a million users have been identified in 2024. It must be said that the offer is attractive. It is possible to offer your own subscription to register one or more people, who therefore contribute to the payment, or to join someone else’s subscription for a greatly reduced price. It works a bit like carpooling: a driver offers available seats in his car, and the more passengers he takes, the more profitable his journey becomes. Moreover, most of these sites offer a wide variety of subscriptions, both to video streaming platforms and to press journals, software or music services. Enough to multiply opportunities, without blowing your budget.

Shared subscription sites are formal, this tip is completely legal and secure. However, today she must defend her place. Spliiit – the number 1 French start-up on the market – is in court with the American giants Netflix, Disney+ and AppleTV, who accuse it of unfair competition and parasitism. After a first summary dismissal pronounced in March 2022, the two parties are now trying to negotiate in order to avoid a trial. The Paris judicial court will have to study the case again by the end of 2025, which could therefore have consequences on the viability of Spliiit. On the other hand, the competing sites GamsGo and ShareSub have so far never been concerned.
