The Acapulco armchair has become a must-have for indoor and outdoor furniture. With its Mexican-inspired design and its graphic braiding, it brings an exotic, light and trendy touch to the decoration. Discover the history and benefits of this iconic piece.

Summary

Want to bring a touch of color and exoticism to your decoration? The Acapulco armchair is an excellent choice. Inspired by the traditional Mayan hammock technique, it seduces with its comfortable seat and its instantly recognizable graphic design. With its steel structure and its resin thread braiding, it forms a real cocoon conducive to relaxation. Long reserved for terraces and gardens, the Acapulco armchair has now found its place in interiors, where it brings a warm note and a holiday spirit all year round.

The origins of the Acapulco armchair

The origins of the Acapulco armchair remain quite vague. Legend has it that it was drawn in Mexicoby we don’t know which craftsman, at the request of a French tourist visiting Acapulco who was looking for the ideal chair for sunbathingbetween the 1940s and 1950s. The result? A comfortable and light armchair which has very good heat resistance thanks to the use of plastic rod and which quickly became popular in Mexico. Having gone out of fashion at the end of the 20th century, it reappeared in Europe in a traveling exhibition highlighting Mexican design in 2008. It was enough to inspire design publishers who then relaunched its production, offered variants and restored its nobility. Since then, it has been popular in a colorful and pop version for the garden, but can also be found in interiors with a sharp design in a graphic black version, for example.

Where to find a real Acapulco armchair?

Several brands produce their version of the Acapulco armchair. In Mexico, for example, we find La Silla Acapulco or Acapulco Chairs Baja which perpetuate the tradition. In France, the plastic rush specialist BOQA produces the Acapulco armchair in many colors and in its original dimensions.

Where to buy an inexpensive Acapulco armchair?

Many decoration brands and supermarkets also offer their own interpretation of the Acapulco armchair such as at Leroy Merlin, Casa, Leclerc, Carrefour Home, GiFi or even IKEA. We also find the armchair under different names, such as at Maisons du Monde, where it was then called Copacabana. No matter the name of the scoubidou armchair, it comes in bright colors, black or white and is even available as a small sofa and a coffee table.

Black, yellow, green… What color for my Acapulco armchair?

Whatever atmosphere you want to create at home or outside, there is necessarily an Acapulco armchair adapted to your desires and needs. White, black, yellow, green, blue, pink, orange and even multi-colored, the Acapulco armchair sees all the colors and the hardest part will be choosing just one!
