Octogenarian, actress Macha Méril has no plans to retire. The proof: she is currently in the theater in “Sand Chopin”. But that doesn’t stop him from thinking about the end of his life… without making a tragedy of it!
Interviewed with other personalities in the pages of the latest issue of Madame Figarowhich devotes a file to age among women, the actress Macha Méril commented frankly on her 85 years. And the widow of the composer Michel Legrand doesn’t beat around the bush: death, yes, she thinks about it. But she lives it very well, thank you for her.
Macha Méril comfortable with old age? “The last years that await me”
In the pages of the magazine, Macha Méril commented on how she accepts aging: “I see old age as an apotheosis. I feel like I’m a better actress and writer. I am liberated, I no longer censor myself, question myself less, because the views of others don’t matter to me.” A weight less on her shoulders but that doesn’t mean she’s burying her head in the sand. So, she knows that at her age, she’s writing the last moments of her life…
“In my book I walk towards her (Ed. Albin Michel), I deal with the end of life, the death of my sister, and the last years that await me. And I make this observation: this deadline is my strength. Now is the time to do what I have not yet been able to achieve. I no longer have to look for my place, make concessions, give in to injunctions. My life is mine“, she added.
Macha Méril intends to keep her life alive until the end. So she plays in the play Sand Chopinat the Théâtre de Poche-Montparnasse, in Paris.
Macha Méril candid on the physical changes linked to old age
While many women find it difficult to bear the inevitable effects of old age, between wrinkles, white hair and falling skin, thus seeking help in cosmetic surgery, Macha Méril assures that she feels good in her body. “I prefer my photo today. My face is more expressive and I let it evolve naturally… Besides, I still like it, even if my desire has become demanding after the beautiful stories I experienced, especially the last one with Michel Legrand“, she confided.
Macha Méril, whose real name is Maria-Magdalena Vladimirovna Gagarin, even has her own philosophy regarding old age: “Growing old means learning to look and feel differently. It’s wonderful. Besides, when people tell me that I don’t look my age, it annoys me. I claim the fact of having lived, of having fought in 1968 and later for women to be better considered, of having inherited my power from my elders… My face is not just mine. It is that of the women of my generation.“
