We knew him for his career in Hollywood but this actor now has a new string to his bow: painter. And he even recently exhibited his paintings in Hong Kong.
Ah the great family of art… This clan in which it is so easy to break down boundaries! While he is becoming increasingly rare on the big screen, this actor that pop culture knows like the back of his hand has taken the time to discover another type of canvas: paintings. Better yet, this actor, now 65 years old, has discovered a real passion for this art. So much so that he even decided to market his works! On March 6 and 7, this action cinema legend organized his very first opening at the University of Hong Kong. Subsequently, all of his paintings were put up for sale, and they are still available on his website.
Twelve different models – produced in 27 copies each – are therefore offered to aficionados of this actor, father of three children. And each represents a city dear to the heart of the one who is followed by some 8.9 million people on Instagram: Hong Kong, Mecca, Beijing, Rio de Janeiro, Kyoto, Los Angeles, Dubai, Doha, Sydney, London, Paris or even the Taj Mahal in India. Each canvas is signed by the hand of the artist in question, and they are all advertised at 2000 dollars, or almost 1724 euros.
A nice little sum, far from the millions requested for painters like Dali or Picasso, to which we must of course add the shipping costs, which amount to 500 dollars (431.20 euros). The cinema legend also made a few white canvases on which these two hands covered in red paint are simply affixed. Sale price: 1500 dollars, or almost 1300 euros.
To highlight his art, the principal concerned decided to pose next to each of his paintings. But then, which monster of international cinema has recently swapped film sets for paintbrushes? Jean-Claude Van Damme of course! Better known for his wacky outings than for his talents as a painter, the Belgian actor does not give up and believes in his art. In vain for the moment since most of JCVD’s works are still for sale on his site…
But let “Les Muscles de Bruxelles” rest assured, others before him have been there. And for good reason, a good number of American actors also try their hand at painting. Jim Carrey, Pierce Brosnan, Johnny Depp, Sylvester Stallone and Anthony Hopkins have all already presented their paintings to the general public. With more or less success.
