Finding a swimsuit that highlights the figure without drawing attention to the belly or cellulite is not always easy. In reality, everything comes down to the cut.
At the beach or at the pool, the same little concerns come up every summer. The stomach, hips or orange peel effect can quickly take up all the space when choosing a swimsuit. However, it is not a question of transforming your body, but rather of finding a cut that rebalances the silhouette and in which you feel good. With the right details, the eye no longer lands in the wrong place, and everything appears more harmonious.
What stylists repeat is that everything comes down to the construction of the swimsuit. First, the material: we favor fairly thick fabrics, often lined, sometimes slightly shaping, which smooth without compressing. Matte finishes are also more flattering, because they do not catch light on small irregularities, unlike shiny materials. Then there’s the cut. A good swimsuit follows the lines of the body without marking, so we forget about models that are too tight or too thin. In terms of colors, dark shades remain a safe bet for unifying the silhouette, while busy prints can help blur the reliefs. But the real trick is the placement of the details: well chosen, they draw the eye to the upper body and distract attention from the stomach or hips.
With this idea in mind, some models tick all the boxes. The Chantelle Icon, at 135 euros, offers a fitted cut with good support and gold details on the straps. At Maio Paris, the Monceau model, at 255 euros, features a very structured black one-piece, with XXL ruffles at shoulder level. For her part, Lise Charmel offers a black swimmer model for 85.50 euros, with cutouts on the chest and gathers at the waist. And, for smaller budgets, Kiabi offers a black one-piece swimsuit for 28 euros with leopard prints on the chest and back, perfect for putting the emphasis where it’s needed.
In the end, the shape that comes up the most among stylists brings together several of these elements. It’s a one-piece swimsuit, in a dark color, with a high waist. At the stomach level, we find a drape or gathers which create a slight movement and reduce the reliefs. And, to balance, the upper body draws attention with visible details like a pop of color, ruffles, bows or cutouts.
Conversely, certain models are less flattering: stockings that are too high cut or with strings will draw the eye more to your skin, low-waisted shorties cut the leg in the wrong place and tend to accentuate volume, and finally details placed on the lower part of the body unbalance the silhouette. Think about it!
