This laser promises to remove up to 100% of hair from home. But what is it really?
Summer is coming, and with it the reflex of hair removal. Every year, we ask ourselves the same question: should we go for the laser and say goodbye to the razor? But between the time and the cost, we must admit that it can be complicated to get started. This is why, in recent years, many brands have developed alternatives to use from home. The promises? Get rid of hair permanently, or almost, thanks to technologies similar to those of professional centers… but much less powerful (not everyone is a dermatologist). Whether they are more or less effective, one device stands out from the crowd with its innovative technology.
Far from pulsed light, this tool has up to 233% more power. To date, it is the method of permanent hair removal at home that is closest to the devices used in clinics with a wavelength of 810nm. The Tria 4X Laser Hair Removal System is even the only laser approved by the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) for permanent hair reduction at home.
I had the opportunity to test it, and I must say that the result is quite astonishing. After several failures with pulsed light, I was quite skeptical, but decided to give it a chance. The device comes in the form of a small gun with the laser at the end. You must place it gently on the skin so that it unlocks and automatically adapts the power according to the information it captures (color of the skin and the bulb). It has five levels to adjust according to your pain tolerance. We then pass the laser over the entire area to be covered (legs, armpits, bikini line and even the face). After only a few sessions at home, not even very regular ones, some hairs were no longer growing back on my legs and those that did come back were much finer despite having quite a lot of hair. After almost a year of use, I noticed a real disappearance of hair. But one clarification seems useful to me: I used the Tria 4X at level 5 (don’t worry, the pain remains bearable). Some accounts show that those who stay at levels 1 to 3 see very little change even in the long term.
Despite its effectiveness, the tool has some limitations. The first? The tip is barely the size of a coin. Doing a half leg requires thirty minutes and infinite patience. The battery also has a lifespan of thirty minutes, you must let the laser charge before moving on to the second leg. In short, you need time and treating large areas quickly becomes frustrating because you have to stop constantly.
The other downside: unsurprisingly, the technology does not work on light hair or dark skin tones. In terms of price, you have to pay a little less than €600, a high budget but still lower than in-office hair removal. The verdict? The Tria 4X delivers on its promise of near-clinic hair removal at home, provided you have the time on your hands and a good dose of courage. If you’re willing to be patient (and grit your teeth at level 5), it’s worth it.
