To repair hair without going to the hairdresser, there is a treatment to place on the edge of your bathtub.
Who has never dreamed of being able to repair their hair without having to make an appointment with the hairdresser? Our daily actions can weaken the hair fiber and cause damage visible to the naked eye. The use of heat appliances, lack of care, repeated chemical treatments or even brushing your hair when it is wet… So many little reflexes which, put together, can lead to real disasters. But don’t panic, a relatively new category of care promises dream hair, all from the comfort of the bathroom and for a price much lower than that of the hairdresser. Zoom.
Unlike classic conditioners or moisturizing masks, which act on the surface to smooth the cuticle, this product penetrates into the heart of the hair, into the cortex. It is he who ensures both the resistance and flexibility of the lengths. The bond builder therefore aims to repair disulfide bridges, these chemical bonds essential to the structure of the hair fiber. However, they are weakened by coloring, discoloration, heat (irons, hair dryers) or even external aggression. Where a classic treatment is satisfied with a surface effect, the bond builder acts in depth. It targets damaged connections to rebuild them and strengthen the fiber. Result: the hair regains its elasticity and becomes more resistant to attacks. And the effect is seen immediately: the lengths are shinier and softer.
And on the hair care market, you are spoiled for choice. In 2014, the American brand Olaplex opened the way for bond builders with an entire range and one objective: to repair hair damaged by chemical and thermal treatments thanks to a molecule protected by more than 100 patents. Since then, new competitors have used different but equally effective approaches. Among them, we can notably cite the Wella, Redken and L’Oréal Professionnel brands. The other particularity of this type of product? Many are used as a treatment before shampooing. On damp hair, we leave it on for between 10 and 30 minutes and then proceed with our usual routine. Other brands such as K18 or Living Proof offer no-rinse bond builders. In this case, after washing, we do not use conditioner and we apply the elixir to the towel-dried lengths. We then wait 4 minutes before styling our hair.
On paper, these nuggets are a dream. You can’t technically abuse them, but you still have to use them in moderation, as hairstylist Jordanna Cobella explains to the British media Harper’s Bazaar. “Many of them contain keratin in their carriers, and this can be used in excess. This can then have the opposite effect: excessively hardening the hair structure and creating an even greater risk of breakage.“So for dream hair, there’s no secret: a good shampoo and the initials BB.
