What you should do in the puerperium

We always recommend preparing the puerperium well. Because, as I said. It is an important time. And one in which a lot can go wrong. One that can be beautiful – but also traumatic.

The fathers are asked …

With us, a midwife has already appealed to the fathers in the preparatory course: take a clear one. At least two weeks, rather four, preferably eight. The father has to do everything at the beginning. Wrap, cook, clean, intercept visitors. “And what does the mother do?” Some asked. The answer: “Breastfeeding. It’s enough work,” she said. We recommend it exactly the same way today. Because the puerperium may also be the first test in terms of equality. It makes so much sense: When Papa wraps from the start, makes a household and builds up a relationship with the child – then hopefully he will remain a father later who does more than just the bare essential …

Of course, this is not always possible. Not everyone has a partner. If so, you should prepare the puerperium all the better! Take care of help in the circle of friends or in the family. Being alone is simply not a good idea in the puerperium. Visit that wants to see the baby – and rather not help – is usually not recommended.

It is really good to deal early with what the puerperium means. It is a time that never comes back and therefore may take longer than shorter, even if it feels boring in between, even if you are impatient and want to go back to life quickly. The puerperium is important. To process, heal, to arrive in the new role. Like to spend weeks in and around the bed, only after eight weeks the puerperium is officially ended.

Being alone is not a good idea …

One good care Through a Follow-up midwifewho trusts you, is the be-all and end-all. With her you can discuss everything: birth injuries, breastfeeding problems, a painful caesarean section scars, depressive moods. All of this is normal in the puerperium, but it is important to have a professional contact point. It is best to take care of a midwife immediately after the positive pregnancy test. Here you will find a list of midwives, otherwise you can also call the clinics, or friends who already have children. Or try Ammely.

After birth, one is often entitled to one Domestic helpFind out more at your health insurance company. There are also in many cities Maternalistswho help the women in the household and cooking and are also simply mentally mentally. “Massing” are just – that is so good in the puerperium, here is an address for Berlin, here is another directory. And again many health insurers cover the costs.

The puerperium is also important and especially after a caesarean section. You recover from a large operation – and by the way, everything is new. Take this time of regeneration seriously.

So much can go wrong …

Of course, there is no guarantee that the puerperium will be a good time. In the team we all remember bad days when there was milk everywhere, you neither made it into the shower nor into the kitchen until afternoon to get something to eat. Or on which the milk did not ride, the baby roared – and everything just seemed as if you could never cope with the new life. In addition, the soft, empty body, the huge bind … in general this weekly flow. Oh, it’s rarely glamorous.

But it can also be so beautiful. A puerperium in which the weekly woman is well looked after and in which she and the baby is physically and mentally good can be fantastic. “Baby hemeading weeks,” we then call that. A time of cuddling, regional, arrival. You take dozens of photos a day, fall in love with the little being, learn to breastfeed (because it rarely comes “naturally”), get used to all the new challenges.

We can really recommend planning this time well. Getting as much help on the boat as possible. So that you really can’t do anything …

Here are a few more things that you can also use well in the puerperium:

Nice pajamas and night shirts. Yes, it is really pleasant to wear a good pajamas during this time, which, as I said, is otherwise hardly glamorous. A bathrobe is also a great thing. And warm socks !! You can find some ideas in the slideshow. Just click on the pictures to look at the products.

Also very nice to have: good quiet bras, a belly belt that supports the regression, a cozy hot water bottle and a warm blanket.

A good book is also something great. Because especially during eternally long nursing units, there is often time to read. Again we have some tips from you on the slide show.

You don’t necessarily have to drink breastfeeding tea (we love the puerperium tea from Into Life!), But it also tastes good for many-and drinking a lot is definitely good, just for digestion. There is nothing worse than constipation after birth (and unfortunately that is exactly that). What is also important: eating. You really need strength during this time. Many swear by brewing, here you will find some ideas and recipes (and you can also order the soups). Pre cooking makes a lot of sense. Startups like Mama Muum (only Berlin) are also a great thing. What we also like: Order food from Nuri Mom or the Hofgut Stoecken. And partners and friends who can cook well are of course worth gold anyway during this time.

In addition, we all swear here on Multi Mam and the silver hut from Livella-a blessing for all beginners. Also great: Lansinoh’s cold warm compresses. And the intimate shower !! The Recover Spray from Into Life and the Sitzbad from the Bahnhofs pharmacy are also great products for “after birth” and all types of birth injuries.

And otherwise … it passes so quickly. Enjoy it!
