At her wedding to Jay-Z 6 years ago, Beyoncé wore a wedding dress that she didn’t actually choose. The singer wanted to honor her mother, but she seems to have had some regrets… before making up for it.
This April 4, 2024, Beyoncé and Jay-Z celebrated their sapphire wedding anniversary! Indeed, the singer and the rapper were married on April 4, 2008 during an intimate ceremony organized in their New York penthouse, in the presence of only around forty people. A secret union revealed a fortnight later. On this day like no other, Beyoncé chose to wear a strapless mermaid dress with puffy bottoms, designed by her mother Tina Knowles, fashion designer at the head of the House of Deréon fashion house.
A custom-made dress which clearly did not live up to her expectations, as Tina Knowles admitted a few years ago. “She was lovely to let me draw it and make it (…) But one day, she said to me: ‘You know, when my daughter gets married, I’ll let her choose her dress.’ not being convinced by the model, but she was still lovely to call on me” had confided the singer’s mother in the show Todayin 2016.
Beyoncé had the merit of honoring her mother’s talents and pleasing her, to the detriment of her own desires. But she was able to make up for it on her second wedding dress. Indeed, this little disagreement fortunately did not tarnish the mother-daughter relationship and, to turn the page, Beyoncé chose her dress herself when she renewed her wedding vows with her husband in 2018. The artist then set his sights on the Thela model by Galia Lahav, inspired by Queen Victoria’s wedding dress.
Covered in Swarovski crystals and rhinestones, this long, off-the-shoulder wedding dress fit her like a glove! “Queen B (his nickname) chose model Thelma herself during her wedding vow renewal ceremony“, wrote the brand Galia Lahav who revealed images of the party on Instagram. In the photos, the singer, surrounded by her husband and their three children (Blue Ivy, Rumi and Sir, then aged respectively six and one year), was simply resplendent!
