This is what emerges from the monitoring data on the female figure presented by Cpo Usigrai. Only 38.1% of the people broadcast on the three Rai channels are women. This is one of the data that emerged from the 2025 monitoring on the presence of the female figure in the programming of the public service which every year Rai commissions from a group of external companies under the scientific direction of Professor Francesca Dragotto, linguist, professor at Tor Vergata University.
The analysis monitored almost 1900 programs from news to fiction, from talk to entertainment. In 10 years, the presence of women on the Company’s channels has increased by less than 5%. «Having fewer than 4 women out of 10 in public service broadcasts, only 1 woman out of 4 among the over-65s and a marginal presence in sport or among expert commentators are not separate phenomena but expressions of the same mental models», underlined Dragotto during the presentation of the monitoring which took place on 8 May, at the National Federation of the Italian Press, in Rome, organized by the Equal Opportunities Commission of Usigrai, the RAI journalists’ union.

Regarding the presence of experts (26.6% of the total number of commentators involved), the good practice of the 50:50 project demonstrates that we can do better. “In March this year, the number of female experts in the 90 programs that participated was 46.2%,” he explained. Mariangela Borneocoordinator of the Rai 50:50 project.
«The monitoring data demonstrates how the situation on the issue of representation has remained stagnant in recent years. AND the reflection that can be made on the reality of the country is the same”said the statistician Linda Laura Sabbadini telling of an Italy where only 54% of women work and where gender stereotypes are strong even among boys and girls.
If the world of fiction shows better data, sport continues to be the Achilles’ heelwith just 17% female presence. On this, the two-time Olympic champion Antonella Bellutti it exposed heavy data on the entire sports system. «77% of the sample of athletes has neither a contract nor a private agreement while 44% have suffered psychological violence and 22% suffer from eating disorders”she said, later adding that in sports management, only 2 federations out of 50 are led by women.
During the event – moderated by Monica Pietrangeli, coordinator of Cpo Usigrai – Elena Capparelli, director of RaiPlay, also spoke; Vittorio Di Trapani, president of Fnsi; Alessandra Mancuso of GiULia Journalists; Daniela Macheda, secretary of Usigrai and Mara Pedrabissi, president of Cpo Fnsi.
