Retiring at 63 has almost become a privilege. This threshold still remains accessible to a handful of people, provided they adhere to a very precise timetable.

The age at which one can draw up their retirement is no longer based on a single reference valid for everyone. From now on, everything depends on the year of birth, because the reform has established a gradual increase in costs. Concretely, the legal age increases in stages of a few months depending on the generation. As a result, some people can still aim to leave at 63, while their juniors will have to wait one quarter, two quarters, then more, until they reach 64.

In this context, knowing your year of birth becomes as important as the number of quarters validated. Reaching the legal age allows you to leave, but only if the insurance period necessary for the full rate is met. Otherwise, a discount may apply. This distinction remains essential, because two people of the same legal age will not necessarily have the same pension if their careers differ. To avoid errors of interpretation, public tools are valuable.

The simulator offered by Info-Retraite makes it possible to obtain a personalized estimate of possible retirement ages, taking into account the entire career. In a few minutes, we see if we are among those who can still consider leaving at 63 or if additional time is necessary. Also, according to the official retirement age calendar, people born between April 1, 1965 and December 31, 1965 can still retire at age 63. For those born in 1966, the age increases to 63 years and 3 months, then to 63 years and 6 months for 1967, to 63 years and 9 months for 1968, before reaching 64 years for people born from 1969.

Alongside the legal age, we must not forget early retirement schemes, particularly for long careers. They can allow you to leave before the expected age for your generation, provided you have started working early and have contributed for a sufficient period of time. Here too, the rules are precise and are verified on a case-by-case basis. This point can change an initial project by several months, or even a year, hence the interest in anticipating and checking your situation well before the planned date.

Concretely, this means that a few months difference in a date of birth can delay a departure by several trimesters. Before setting an end-of-career plan, it is therefore better to check your legal age and your contribution period via your career statement and public simulators. This way, you will avoid any unpleasant surprises when submitting your request.
