Sometimes there are false good ideas. This is precisely the case of this very popular installation, which should nevertheless be avoided, if we are to believe this architect.

In a home, all architects repeat it: clients are always looking to save space. Several solutions help us to recover a few precious square meters, such as space-saving furniture or with integrated storage. For example, a bench in the kitchen with drawers underneath, a bench in the entrance that serves as a chest, a headboard with niches or a sideboard-style dining table. The other tip is overhead storage. Rather than cluttering the floor, buying tall furniture that reaches the ceiling allows you to optimize as much as possible. This will also give you the feeling of more spacious rooms. It’s a win-win.

It’s not just the top of the walls to invest in, the lower part too. Under the sofa, under the bed, under the vanity unit, these are all spaces to use to place your belongings that have not yet found a place in your apartment or house. Do you have a staircase? It’s a godsend, because you can fit lots of things in there: a bookcase, pretty dishes or even a closed cupboard for less aesthetic objects.

Is your accommodation attic? The lower part is the perfect opportunity to add custom storage for shoes or towels in the bathroom. The other well-known solution is to remove the doors from the living room or kitchen. However, there are places where the door remains essential, because it guarantees a little privacy. This is the case for the toilet, the bathroom or the bedroom.

If, on paper, the sliding door seems to be a good compromise, according to the architect of the @archi_facile account, it is really not a panacea. First, they are not very insulating in terms of noise, which can be annoying in the long run: “Your door is a sound sieve”says the expert.

Another weak point is that they take up space in the partition where they fit, which makes it impossible to run electrical cables, pipes or attach a radiator… Which makes the wall more hollow: “you can’t even drive a nail”he warns. Also, as it is suspended from the top, it moves with the slightest draft. And if you choose to prop it up with a guide on the ground, you risk tripping over it every time you pass.

The architect also jokes about the handles of these doors which are flat and therefore difficult to handle if you have big fingers. In short, you will have understood, the sliding door is really not the perfect solution according to him.
