Inspiration for finding the color of your living room
What are the trendy colors in the living room?
Natural atmospheres are the most fashionable. We will use shades of sandstone and sand colors with touches of more intense colors such as terracotta or shades of green. In a bohemian atmosphere, beiges and browns will also be adopted without hesitation. THE shades of brown like mocha and chocolate are trendy again.
When it comes to brighter colors, blues and greens are always safe bets in their multiple shades. With the comeback of the 70’s, the color orange is also making a comeback.
If, when choosing the color of your living room, you opt for bright colors, apply them sparingly. Little tip, using a distinct tone allows you to demarcate spaces. For example, if you like flashy orange, don’t repaint your entire living room with your favorite color! A single section of walllike the one behind the sofa, allows you to clearly identify the lounge area. As a reminder, use this flashy color by little touches : sofa cushions, splashes of this color on the curtains, candles, vases or other decorative objects… without overdoing it. In addition, to bring contrasts, you can repaint your window and door frames with a color one to three tones higher than that of your walls.
In terms of accessories, the cushions will be your best friends: wax cushions, floral cushions or cushions with geometric patterns. They will bring graphics and pep to your living room. In any case, don’t hesitate to decorate your living room with different colors according to the seasons and your tastes. Sometimes, just a few details are enough: so think about throws, candles, posters or curtains.
There are a few rules to follow regarding color combinations for a result that is pleasing to the eye.
- Do not use no more than three colors to create the ambiance of your living room.
- If you want to observe contrasts, choose colors that are in opposition on the color wheelfor example red, blue and yellow.
- If, on the other hand, you prefer a harmonious and delicate finish, opt for a monochrome or use colors that are found next to it on the color wheel.

The meaning of the colors must be taken with caution, which has a important psychological dimensionin order to determine its impact. THE warm colors represent enthusiasm. But red means strength, passion, prohibition. Orange is peachy and leads to creativity and communication.
For their part, the cold colors have a refreshing, zen effect and soothing. Blue and turquoise evoke rest and give an impression of space. Purple invites meditation. Green, which is located in the center of the color spectrum, evokes nature. People have references and associate colors with their natural origin. Black and white are colors widely used in decoration. Black evokes mystery, seduction, but also death. The purity and innocence of white contrast with its cold and impersonal side.
In terms of color harmony, we have three possibilities:
- a classic monochromatic decor around a different shade (golden yellow, pastel, lemon): the eye will then be attracted by the play of materials,
- a contrasting decor created by complementary colors which can shock the eye,
- an rsearch for balance and harmony thanks to close shades on the color wheel.
