At 82, Eddy Mitchell is far from retirement. On the other hand, the crooner has indeed already planned… his funeral! Here’s what he says about it.
This month of November promises to be busy for Eddy Mitchell. On November 8, La Vieille Canaille unveiled its fortieth album, Friends. And in the process, he will publish his autobiography with Editions du Cherche Midi. The 82-year-old artist therefore has no time to be bored. And don’t let anyone talk to him about retirement!
Where does Eddy Mitchell plan to be buried?
However, the interpreter of On the road to Memphis is completely clear about his age. Moreover, as he explained on France Inter on October 22, Eddy Mitchell has already planned everything for his funeral. As he confided to Léa Salamé, he reserved his vault in the marine cemetery of Saint-Tropez where he has owned a villa since the 1980s. A sumptuous residence where he now spends most of his time when he is not in his Parisian home.
A grave “facing the sea”not far from that of his former producer and friend Eddie Barclay, who died in 2005 and whose grave he had also carried alongside another of his great accomplices, Johnny Hallyday. “We can play cards like that”he quipped to the journalist. But make no mistake, he too hopes that the ax will fall “as late as possible…”
What his children categorically refused
And if the crooner – real name Claude Moine – would have preferred cremation, his three children, Eddy, Marilyne and Pamela, were opposed to it. “I would prefer to be burned, but my children want to pay their respects at a grave. So, for that matter, it might as well be here”declared the singer to Parisian in 2015. He therefore chose his epitaph on his own as he recently admitted to TV Star. It will therefore be: “Do not disturb”. “I like to be left alone…”clearly justified Muriel Bailleul’s husband.
Regarding potential posthumous songs: too few for him! “As for posterity, there are no archives, I keep nothing of my drafts. Everything was published during my lifetime and I am surprised that it lasted so long. Because, at the start, it is necessary say it: no one believed it”he declared in the columns of JDD several months ago.
