History, unfortunately, continues to repeat itself over and over again. A woman, a 32-year-old healthcare worker, is hospitalized at the Burns Center in Padua after being attacked two days ago in Peseggia di Scorzè (Venice) while returning home by a man who he threw a corrosive substance at her which hit her on the neck, arms and partly on the face. His injuries are serious but not life-threatening. A life that will never be the same again.
And precisely “The Second Life”, broadcast on Tuesday 30 June at 9.15pm, on Rai 3 for “Che ci fare qui”, produced by Indigo Stories – tells two stories in which the body becomes the point where everything is concentrated: the damage, the resistance and the possibility of continuing. Domenico Iannacone goes through these stories while remaining inside the decisive passagesthose in which you can no longer be as before and you learn to live in what you have become.

The first of these stories is that of the first woman in Italy to survive a disfigurement with acid. Her name is Filomena Lamberti and her story dates back to May 28, 2012when her then husband disfigured her to punish her for her decision to separate, after thirty years of violence and domestic abuse: while she slept, he poured sulfuric acid on her face and body. After many years that have passed and dozens of surgical operations undergone, Filomena will tell her story once again tonight in the hope that women who are victims of violence will immediately report the men, before reaching the irreparable point.
The second story that Domenico Iannacone will tell is that of Roberta Di Benedetto. The woman lived for years with two hearts, the sick one and the donated one. Then a second transplant marked an even more radical step: the removal of both and the arrival of a new organ. Today, in his chest, the heart of another human being beats: a gift that is not just the possibility of continuing, but a living presence that is intertwined with his. “The second life” lies in what happens after the breakup, when nothing can go back to how it was and everything can be experienced again.
