The young competitor from Brianza convinced the jury with his titled tasting menu “All of me”a thought-out gastronomic journey to tell his personal story and the progress made during the program. With the victory he wins 100 thousand euros in gold tokens, the publication of his first recipe book and the possibility of attending a high level training course at ALMA, the international high school of Italian cuisine.
THE’emotion of the moment it was evident from the first words spoken after the proclamation. «I won, I won in front of everyone, in front of my family, in front of my girlfriend and my best friend. I won by making the cuisine that I want to bring. It’s an incredible feeling,” he said immediately after the victory.
Who is Matteo “Teo” Canzi
Teo has 24 years old and is originally from Olgiate Molgorain the province of Lecco. Before participating in MasterChef Italia he was studying International Marketingbut cooking has always been his true passion. It was his grandmother Egidia who passed on his love for cooking to himwith which he began experimenting with recipes and ingredients as a child. During the program he often recalled how much that family bond influenced his path.
The choice to dedicate oneself to cooking, however, it was not immediately understood by everyone. Teo himself said that at the beginning his parents viewed his decision to leave his studies to pursue this path with some doubt: «Now they know that cooking is my life purpose and they are with me. For a while it was difficult to understand each other. They didn’t want me to leave the degree course I was enrolled in, then they changed their minds.”
The path in the program
During the edition Teo has stood out for his creative and personal culinary stylecapable of combining technique and experimentation. Despite the rather reserved characterproved great determinationmanaging to overcome even difficult moments during the competition. He himself told how much the experience in the program was intense and challenging: «MasterChef devastated me psychologically but it also made me the person I am now». Between the most difficult moments of the route remembers above all the beginning of the race, when he risked elimination: «The first week was very hard. I risked going out for bread and it was a shock.”
The final and the “All of me” menu
The final episode opened with a special test in the high mountains together with the chef Norbert Niederkoflerguest of the final evening. After the first challenges, Teo and Carlotta remained to compete for the title. For the final round the two contestants presented a complete tasting menu. Teo has chosen to tell his story through four symbolic coursesgathered in the “All about me” menu. Among the dishes most appreciated by the judges was pumpkin risotto with smoked catfishone of the most representative moments of his cuisine. «Risotto with catfish is one of the dishes that represents me the most», he explained.
The future after MasterChef
The victory in the program represents above all for him a starting point. Looking to the future, Teo has clear ideas about which path to take: «I don’t want to become an influenceralthough I would be stupid not to ride the push of social media. I want to be a chef, I want to study further and work my way up». The dream is to grow professionally in the world of catering and, one day, open his own restaurant.
With the title of fifteenth Italian MasterChefTeo wins 100 thousand euros, the publication of a recipe book and access to the prestigious training course in one of the most important centers for gastronomic training.
