Since the death of Karl Lagerfeld in 2019, his legacy is still in the hands of justice. But, while he had made certain arrangements, one point in particular seems not to have been respected.
Everyone wants their piece of the pie… The late couturier and stylist Karl Lagerfeld left a substantial inheritance estimated at $200 million upon his death. As reported by Times last February, this money was to be divided between his assistant Sébastien Jondeau, his godson Hudson Kroenig, the two models Brad Kroenig and Baptiste Giabiconi as well as his cat Choupette. But an anonymous complainant contests this inheritance, which is still blocked…
Legacy of Karl Lagerfeld: he had made arrangements for Choupette but…
In 2011, the legendary artistic director of the house of Chanel adopted a son from Burma, a little cat named Choupette. And he was crazy about it! “She has her own little fortune, she’s an heiress: if something happens to me, the person who takes care of it won’t be in misery“, said Karl Lagerfeld to Marc-Olivier Fogiel in the show The Couchin 2015. And to add that “the money from the ads she appears in has been set aside for her. Choupette is a rich girl.”
Furthermore, we learned upon the death of the designer that he had allocated the very tidy sum of 1.5 million dollars to the person who would be his dependent to meet his needs; making her “the richest cat in the world”.
In this case, it was Françoise Cacote, Karl Lagerfeld’s former housekeeper who took in the animal. “Choupette has always had a princess character and unfortunately, as she grows up, it doesn’t get better! (…) She is in great shape, she is 13, almost 14, but she is not bad at all“, confided his new mistress to Hello last year. Yes, but it seems that Françoise Cacote has never seen a single euro spend to take care of the cat…
What happens to Choupette? “Ruined”, she lives modestly
In fact, the British site Daily Mail revealed on May 31 that the promised sum of $1.5 million would never have been paid to Françoise Cacote. “Today, she (Choupette) is ruined and lives off the kindness of Karl Lagerfeld’s former governess“, relates the site. “We received absolutely nothing. I work part time to take care of her. I do my best to honor his wishes“, confided Françoise Cacote.
While the inheritance is still contested, the designer’s former housekeeper does not intend to give up. She takes care of Choupette, at home, in her Parisian apartment, and has started a legal standoff: “I had to hire very expensive lawyers to claim the inheritance on my behalf.” To be continued!
