Getting older or being the victim of accident of life can be expensive. For adapt your home and make it more secure, particularly its bathroom, design solutions exist. The good news? Depending on the situation, financial aid are possible.

MaPrimeAdapt’ state aid

Regarding the loss of autonomyit is the main state aid which takes the form of financial subsidy for owners and co-owners, whether they occupy their accommodation or rent it out, and to tenants of private housing under certain conditions:

  • Be 70 years or older
  • Be between 60 and 69 years old and have a GIR assessment between 1 and 6
  • Justifya disability rate of at least 50% or are eligible for the PCH (disability compensation benefit)

The aid can finance up to 70% of the bathroom project with a ceiling of subsidized work of 22,000 euros excluding tax. Good to know, throughout the process, a project management assistant supports the project, comes to the home for a diagnosis and identifies problem areas. He can even be accompanied by an occupational therapist in certain situations.

For craftsmen, certain labels such as Silverbat, Handibat or Proadapt identify professionals specializing in adaptation work.

Assistance from pension funds

Some pension funds offer aid schemes that can be combined with MaPrimeAdapt’, such as a prevention kit which corresponds to a certain amount – between 100 to 300 € – technical aids to secure a bathroom. Practical for purchasing a toilet booster seat, transfer boards, a shower seat, grab bars or a handrail for example.

There is also the Oscar aid planwhich grants up to €500 for small works or technical aids. To find out about the assistance offered, it is best to contact the retirement fund concerned.

Aid from local authorities

Some local authorities grant aid or subsidies according to conditions defined locally and cumulative with MaPrimeAdapt’. For example, the departmental council pays the APA, personalized autonomy allowanceintended for people over 60 who are losing their autonomy (GIR 1 to 4 on the AGGIR grid).

Granted by the MDPH, Departmental house for disabled peoplethe PCH, (Disability Compensation Benefit), covers the work necessary to make a bathroom accessible to wheelchairs or disabled people. More locally, communities provide specific subsidies via their CCAS (Communal Social Action Center).

Tax assistance in the form of tax credit

If you have done work in your bathroom in 2025, it is possible to benefit froma tax credit for work carried out and invoiced before December 31, 2025. Unfortunately, this does not concern work paid from January 1, 2026. This concerns people over 60 years old and losing their autonomy, or with a disability rate of at least 50%with income at an intermediate level.

The tax credit covers 25% of the amount of expenses from 2025 within the limit of €5,000 for a single person and €10,000 for a couple (over a period of 5 rolling years) and concerns installation of sanitary equipment such as a wall-mounted shower seat, an extra-flat shower tray, a shower door, a wall-hung toilet with support frame, a thermostatic mixer, taps and tilting mirror for people with reduced mobility, height-adjustable sink and washbasin and a remote siphon.

So many solutions to limit the financial burden of these arrangements for aging people or people with disabilities.
