You are never better served than by yourself, especially when you are an architect. The renovation project that we are revealing to you is the one that Stéphanie Le Rouzic carried out in her own apartment. She fell under the spell of this Marseille accommodation with a large terrace. And to make matters worse, it was located in a neighborhood that she particularly liked. But there were some downsides: an extra room was missing for her. There were already two for his children, but they weren’t the same size, which also bothered him. Finally, it was necessary to bring light into certain blind rooms. A lot of work, in short.
Budgetary constraints that become assets
Stéphanie Le Rouzic started by rearranging the sleeping area: “I rebalanced the two bedrooms that overlooked the street and I made my bedroom in the small blind room, recovering square meters from the larger one. I brought light to it by opening it onto the skylight that opened into the attic.”
In the living room, the partitions were knocked down in order to have a large space with open kitchen, living room and dining room. She couldn’t change everything immediately, especially the cement tiles in the kitchen. “They weren’t really my colors or my patterns and I thought at one point not to keep them, but I’m very happy that, due to lack of means, I didn’t change them. Because now, I love them.”
Result: each corner of this room has its own floor, which demarcates the zones and brings a crazy character. Eight years later, she was able to tackle the upstairs. The attic has been transformed into a long bedroom, an office where she doesn’t work, a creative space to have fun and a bathroom. The downstairs bedroom has become an office and reading space, much appreciated by the whole family. The decoration was not “upstream thinking.” She explains to us that she bought at first glance and added elements as she went along. This is why the apartment is unlike any other and has that bohemian charm and freshness that makes it so irresistible.
