Inaugurated last November, this new national road has however never been open to traffic. But why?
When the municipalities undertake major works to retype the roads of the town, it is generally good news for the inhabitants. The latter often benefit from time to get around, more comfortable roads and above all, these initiatives make it possible to unclog the traffic jams. In Chamboret, in the department of Haute-Vienne, a brand new road was inaugurated last November, on the RN 147. But problem, this two-kilometer surpassing route has never been open to traffic.
Yes, motorists pass by without ever being able to borrow it. “It’s public money thrown out the windows,” said a resident of the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region. And for good reason! This section of road required work that cost no less than 7 million euros. But then, why is this road forbidden to access?
As it stands, it is simply “impracticable”, reports TF1 in a report broadcast in early April. Indeed, when you look more closely at it, the ground marking carried out by a company is not clear for road users. The signaling has been completely failed. “”This is the first time that we have seen this type of thing. There is both the old marking and the new one. Therefore, there may be a loss of mark for the user, which can induce confusion and dangerous maneuvers“, explains to journalists Dominique Birot, head of the road engineering service at the Interdepartmental Directorate of Center-West roads.
And that’s not all: by wanting to erase the old marking on the ground, the company in question would have removed a fine film of bitumen. Result: the roadway then becomes less waterproof and the water can gradually take off the stones on the surface, thus creating hen nests in the long term. This represents a real danger for bikers. Finally, “as soon as the weather conditions are met”, the company at fault will start from the work which will be responsible.
