There is an Italy that rarely hits the front pages. He doesn’t scream, he doesn’t pose, he doesn’t live by motivational slogans. It is a country that works in silence and that, every now and then, even tries to do something more difficult: leave behind a piece of concrete good. Not abstract, not for conferences. Good true. What comes from a soup kitchen, from a laboratory inside a prison, from a suburban boy who stops feeling invisible, from an agricultural project in Africa that chooses not to exploit those who cultivate the land.

It is from this point of observation that Companies of Value – The good that works, the new Famiglia Cristiana podcast created and hosted by Luca Ceredawith the direction and technical care of Michele Tutone. A project that takes off from the weekly column of the same name and transforms it into an audio story, choosing a precise path: entering companies not to celebrate them, but to understand what happens when the company decides not to limit itself to profit and tries to measure itself with social responsibility.

Today the acronym ESG has almost become a mantra. Sustainability, inclusion, governance. But often the risk is that of an elegant lexicon that remains suspended above reality. The podcast of Christian family instead try to do the opposite: dirty your shoes in the mud of stories, go to places, listen to people, place those who experience those projects first-hand alongside the managers.

This is why each episode intertwines two registers: on the one hand the institutional figures – CSR leaders, corporate foundations, managers – on the other the voices from the field, those who give flesh to the words. Employees, social workers, educators, volunteers, beneficiaries. Not constructed testimonials, but people.

Checking in with guests

The first stop of the journey is Palermo. A city that has lived with the word suburbs for decades as if it were a destiny already written. Here Edison, through the EOS Foundation – Edison Orizzonte Sociale ETS led by Francesca Magliulogave life to “Urban Traiettorie”, a project that involved thousands of young people in the city’s neighborhoods. But the podcast carefully avoids “save the kids” rhetoric. He prefers to tell how a community is built: spaces restored, relationships that are born, educational facilities that become points of reference. Alongside the project vision, the most precious voices then emerge: a young woman from social enterprise FuoriCentro And Fra Mauro, friar and psychologistwhich bring everything back to a simple and gigantic question at the same time: what happens when someone finally invests in margins instead of considering them lost?

Then come the prisons. And here the podcast changes smell: freshly baked bread, toasted coffee, biscuits kneaded in the laboratories. Coop she enters penitentiary institutions not as a paternalistic benefactor, but as an individual who tries to build concrete paths of work and reintegration. Carmela Favarulo and Enrico Nada they tell an idea that is almost revolutionary in its simplicity: giving dignity through doing. Behind a pack of biscuits or a loaf of bread there is not just a product, but a piece of life trying to start again. The podcast is credited with Don’t romanticize prison: let the difficulties emergemistrust, the struggle to make stable what is born fragile. But precisely for this reason the story gains weight.

With Intesa Sanpaolo and Caritas Italiana instead we enter the most delicate territory: that of minors within the penal circuit. “Helping those who help” is the name of the program that frames projects such as “Justice with Mercy” and “Jobel”. And the titles already tell of an attempt against the current: to put together words that contemporary society considers incompatible. Justice and mercy. Pain and hope. Andrea Forghieri and Cinzia Neglia they explain how listening, training and accompaniment can become tools for real reintegration. In times that seem in love with displayed punishment and permanent pillorying, the podcast introduces an uncomfortable question: what happens to a boy when no one gives him the chance to change anymore?

In the end – last bus not leastas the Anglo-Saxons would say, given that this series has the ambition to grow and tell the story of the good that works – the journey extends beyond the Mediterranean and arrives in Togo. Here Esselunga, together with Altromercatohas built a cocoa supply chain that tries to put local producers and the sustainability of the territory at the centre. Astrid Palmieri and Laura Bacchiega they tell a project that talks about agriculture, work, development and international trade, but above all about responsibility. Because behind every product that ends up on the shelves there is always an invisible choice: exploit or build opportunities. And the fact that we are already looking at Madagascar shows how certain experiences can become replicable models.

The strength of Valuable companies – The good that works it lies right here: in holding the economy and humanity together without transforming either of them into propaganda. Cereda he leads with a dry journalistic pace, without artificial emphasis, letting the stories find their own weight. Michele Tutoneas a director, instead builds an essential, clean soundscape that accompanies listening without invading it.

“Behind the So” podcast series

What emerges is a podcast that neither preaches nor absolves. Observe. Listen. Go deeper. And above all, remember something that we often forget: good almost never comes from spectacular gestures. It grows slowly, within daily choices, within people who decide to use their work to leave the world a little less unequal than they found it.

In a time that seems to only talk about crises, conflicts and divisions, Companies of Value tries to do journalism in another way: looking for the stories that bring people together instead of separating them. And perhaps this is the most important news today.

Listen to valuable companies. The good that also works on Spotify, Spreaker and Apple Podcasts.
