Christophe Maé is an essential artist on the French scene, but his career could very well have ended earlier than expected. The 50-year-old artist actually escaped death while he was on stage…
This Saturday, May 30, the grand finale of the fifteenth season of The Voice. It will pit four talents against each other, Tessa B., Victor, Lady O’ and CJM’S, who will all be able to count on the support of their coaches, and big names in French song. Among them: Héléna, Christophe Willem, Suzane and Christophe Maé. But did you know that the latter literally almost died on stage?
Christophe Maé: the singer almost died on stage
At the dawn of his 30th birthday, and while he was still unknown to the general public, Christophe Maé was spotted by Dove Attia, producer of Sun Kingwho offered him the role of Philippe de France, the eccentric brother of Louis XIV. It was therefore alongside Emmanuel Moire that he gradually became the star he is today. But everything could have ended much faster than expected… And for good reason, the interpreter of We get attached came close to death at the very beginning of his career, during a performance of the show.
In The Good Sunday Show by Bruno Guillon on RTL, Dove Attia returned to this spectacular incident. “On ‘The Sun King’, he almost died, I assure you”he blurted. Before going into some detail: “There was a big spinner, and then… the people who installed it screwed a bolt wrong, and one day, it fell. It’s two tons”.
Christophe Maé could have “taken two tons on the head”: “As luck would have it…”
“Luckily there was an absent dancer, and the absent dancer, therefore, he was no longer in the center: we put him around. There would not have been this absent dancer, he took two tons on the head”finally mentioned the producer. Asked about it on the set of C to you last March, the main person concerned, who has no problem with his age, made a confession: he did not immediately realize the extent of the damage, and even “kept singing”.
“One evening, we are on stage, there is a whole bridge which comes off the stage and which brushes against my shirt. And which makes a hole in the floor”he remembered. Before finally admitting: “But we didn’t get far from the drama”. More fear than harm for the one who shares his life with Nadège Sarron with whom he had two sons, Jules and Marcel… Fortunately!
And obviously, despite this traumatic experience, the singer has not given up on the stage since to defend his seventh studio album, Fun Fairand for the third time in his career, the artist adored by the French will pass through the Accor Arena in Paris on February 17, 2027.
