The candidate for mayor of Paris made intimate confidences on the sidelines of her electoral campaign to succeed Anne Hidalgo. She notably mentioned a delicate subject: her relationship to religion.

It’s not easy to read between Rachida Dati’s lines, especially when it comes to religion. If the right-wing candidate for mayor of Paris – some recent polls show her as a potential winner in the second round depending on the configurations against Emmanuel Grégoire – has never hidden her faith, she has never clearly stated what her religion was.

Rachida Dati and her “universal faith” : “I believe in God”

Raised by Muslim parents, the former Minister of Culture and Minister of Culture was nevertheless educated in Catholic establishments. A mix of cultures and beliefs, which have shaped his personality and his faith. “I have kept this side of this universal faith since I was little”she told Guillaume Pley in an interview on his show Legend on Youtube. “I love places of worship and I go to all religious ceremonies, whatever the worship (…) I am very involved in parish life”she continued without making any mystery.

“I believe in God, I say prayers for my parents”even added the one who hopes to succeed her best enemy, Anne Hidalgo. While leaving doubt about his confession. It must be said that Rachida Dati has never confirmed her belonging to this or that religion. However, she seems to have a strong connection with the Catholic religion, and has often said she goes to mass every Sunday, “a ritual that is part of his childhood”.

Rachida Dati “imbued with Christian roots”…

At 60, the mother of Zohra, her only daughter born in January 2000, has never said she converted. But she is a big regular at the Saint-François Xavier parish, located in the very chic 7th arrondissement of the capital where she lives and of which she is the mayor. However, it is not uncommon to also see him in the front rows of Protestant temples…

“Impregnated by the Christian roots of our country, I am very sensitive to the liturgy, to the homilies, to religious songs”she told the magazine in 2013 Current Values. “The Carmelites contributed to my academic success, and this success was accompanied by biblical stories”. The mystery of Rachida Dati’s faith therefore remains intact!
