Hot flashes, hormonal disorders, acne… Menopause disrupts women’s health. An expert deciphers this return of pimples after 50 years.

Menopause comes with its share of disadvantages. Hot flashes, hormonal upheaval and sometimes a few acne spots. While we thought blackheads had disappeared from our faces during adolescence, now they are coming back to show up. A true relic of the past. Getting rid of them is not easy since they mainly come from a hormonal upheaval. “At menopause, the production of estrogen and progesterone decreases. But androgens, male hormones which remain very stable in women, increase and become a source of acne.“, explains Amélie Desazars, co-founder of the Skin & Out brand.

In order to say goodbye to these pimples, the brand has developed a protocol with the help of endocrinologists, psychologists, naturopaths and nutritionists. This obviously includes skin care but also food supplements in order to treat the cause from the inside and the outside at the same time. “The capsules are designed to strengthen the body against this androgen surge, which is often the cause of acne during menopause.“, continues the professional. For their part, cosmetics are made without alcohol, perfume or essential oil. “We really respect the sensitivity of the skin, especially in adult women, which tends to be more fragile with time and age.“A very important point, but so neglected. Indeed, astringent products, very often used in cases of acne problems, dry out the face and therefore worsen the problem.”This is a bad idea, because if you dry out the epidermis, the skin panics and compensates by producing more sebum. And sebum is the starting point of acne“, clarifies Amélie Desazars.

This is even more true for the mature epidermis, which is weakened with age. The skin is thinner, the skin barrier retains water less well and feels more easily attacked. “Basically, structurally, it needs to be treated differently and very gently.“, adds the founder of Skin & Out. A watchword: simplicity. We opt for a gentle cleanser, a fairly rich moisturizing cream and a local treatment for small spots, which treats without attacking. That of the brand is made up of 99% ingredients of natural origin, for example. Moral: at menopause, we pamper our skin, we do not punish it.
