Today, May 4th, is a special day for all the millions of fans of one of the most famous sagas in cinema: Star Wars. These films were able to enchant entire generations, fascinated by these “space” films that marked an era.
But why was May 4th chosen as the date to celebrate the franchise? The reason is linked to English phonetics. In Italy the cult phrase of this epic series reads: «May the force be with you», translation of «May the force be with you». With a play on words, you get to compose a sentence that sounds similar to the ear: «May the fourth be with you» or «May the 4th of May be with you».
This day was initially chosen by millions of fans around the world and subsequently also adopted by companies, media and brand owners. This year it was particularly felt due to a very specific event: on May 20th the new chapter of the saga will be released in Italian cinemas: “Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu.”
Scattered throughout the country, events and celebrations were the backdrop to the approach of Star Wars Day and the release of the new film. Starting from Milan, where a celebratory parade regarding Star Wars took place on Saturday. Furthermore, the show was staged at the Giorgio Gaber opera house: “Star Wars: Return of the Jedi in Concert”. It was the debut in our country of this show long awaited by fans. Even for the Capitoline followers there will be an opportunity to give vent to their passion. In fact, during Star Wars Day, 25 minutes of scenes from the new film will be screened in selected theaters (including in Milan).
But the initiatives do not stop at the Italian ones. In fact, from September 22nd the Lucas Museum of Narrative Artin which there will be a spaceship-shaped structure. Furthermore there will be exhibitions and events related to the world of Star Wars.

Beyond events and new announcements, it Star Wars Day it remains a moment of reflection on universal themes. The struggle between good and evil, the concept of “balance” and the Force understood as a connection between all living beings have transformed a “space story” into a sort of modern mythology. It is precisely this depth that allows the saga to speak to the children of the 70s and, at the same time, to the kids who flock to theaters today to see the new adventures of the distant galaxy.
