«This project was born from a spark that was lit the first time I set foot in the Santobono Pausilipon Hospital. In those wards I recognized something that escapes words and that goes far beyond medical treatment”, he says Valentina Lavazzacreator and producer of the “Risonanze” project. «Thanks to the work of the Santobono Pausilipon Foundation, something magical happens every day in that hospital. From them in recent months I have learned that If life cannot be lengthened, it can be enlarged. From that spark was born a journey that went beyond the confines of the hospital, letting the stories of our six child protagonists resonate. They are the ones who taught us to recognize trust and to cherish the hope that does not promise, but illuminates”, he continues.

Last May 6, the Quartieri Spagnoli Foundation (Foqus) hosted an extraordinary event which saw the participation of artists and institutions to welcome the Amoroforo, that is, the train that left Turin and arrived in Naples, full of hope and solidarity for the children of Santobono. Numerous well-known faces from the artistic and social scene have come on board to support the project, among others, the writer and activist Luca Trapanese, the writer Luca Bianchini, the comedians Ale & Franz, the astronaut Paolo Nespoli, the sports journalist Maria Luisa Jacobelli.

«“Risonanze” fully represents the deepest meaning of our mission: humanize care, transforming the hospital into a space where children can continue to express themselves. This project demonstrates how, even in the most complex moments, it is possible to generate beauty. Music, in this journey, becomes a universal language of care and hope”, says Flavia Matrisciano, director of the Santobono Pausilipon Foundation.

May 6, in Naples, was an evening in which the hospital went out into the neighborhoods to share the children’s pain with joy through music. The documentary “Risonanze”, by the director Jacopo Genuarditells exactly what happens in a ward while the world outside continues its routine, through the voices of six young patients and their way of dealing with the disease, which becomes a lesson for everyone. «With this documentary I wanted to tell what happens when you change your point of view. In the film we see children, families and doctors going through the same tension but with different intensities and reactions. I felt the film was like a tightrope between opposing but complementary forces. A string that always seemed on the verge of breaking but which, thanks to that tension, managed to vibrate and generate resonance. The gaze of a child can transform even fragility into beauty. They are the ones who teach adults that life passes, but it happens now”, says the director.

The Santobono Pausilipon Hospital is the main pediatric hospital center in Southern Italy and a regional point of reference for emergencies and high specialization in the neonatal and pediatric field. Rodolfo Conennageneral director of the Santobono Pausilipon National Hospital, says: «Music has the power to enter into a direct relationship with the soul, especially that of children. In a complex context such as the hospital one, it becomes a precious treatment tool. With “Risonanze” we wanted to give space to this strength, recognizing in music not only an artistic language, but a real ally in the clinical and therapeutic path of our patients. This project demonstrates how fundamental it is to assist the child in his entirety, also recognizing value in the emotional and expressive dimension.”
